As demand for veterinary services grows, veterinary clinics in the N.W.T are being forced to restrict or temporarily suspend their emergency after-hours services to prevent staff burnout.
Kimmirut was the first stop on the vets' itinerary. The clinic was much needed in the hamlet of around 426 people, as the closest vet services are in Iqaluit, about a 35-to 40-minute plane ride away.
