Equity barometers were hovering near the day s high with strong gains in mid-morning trade. All sectoral indices on the NSE were trading in the green. Positive cues from other Asian markets supported buying.
At 11:24 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, jumped 541.39 points or 1.11% at 49,105.62. The Nifty 50 index rallied 157.40 points or 1.1% at 14,438.40.
The broader market outperformed the benchmarks. The S&P BSE Mid-Cap index rallied 1.74% while the S&P BSE Small-Cap index was up 1.5%.
The market breadth was strong. On the BSE, 1969 shares rose and 689 shares fell. A total of 128 shares were unchanged.
In yesterday s trading session, foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) bought shares worth Rs 650.60 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs), were net sellers to the tune of Rs 42.51 crore in the Indian equity market on 18 January, provisional data showed.

Sensex, Nifty Highlights on January 19: Reversing from yesterday s lows, market benchmarks rose sharply on Tuesday and closed near record highs, tracking cues from positive global equities. Sensex added 834 points today to 49,398 and Nifty gained by 239 points to 14,521. Sensex and Nifty today touched intraday high of 49,499 and 14,546. Earlier on January 13, Sensex and Nifty hit fresh lifetime highs of 49,795 and 14,653, respectively. Bajaj Finance, followed by SBI, ONGC, IndusInd Bank, Reliance Industries, HDFC and Axis Bank were among the top gainers. On the other hand, ITC and HDFC Bank were the laggards. Barometers further extended gains and hit a fresh intraday high in early afternoon trade. At 12:20 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, soared 631.76 points or 1.30% at 49,196.03. The Nifty 50 index jumped 190 points or 1.33% at 14,471.30.
In the broader market, the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index rose 1.72% while the S&P BSE Small-Cap index gained 1.52%.
The market breadth was very strong. On the BSE, 1,978 shares rose and 709 shares fell. A total of 133 shares were unchanged.
Positive cues from other Asian markets and robust FII inflows in the domestic equity market boosted sentiment.

The NSE s India VIX, a gauge of market s expectation of volatility over the near term, dropped 5.09% to 23.1525. The Nifty 28 January 2021 futures were trading at 14,501, at a premium of 29.70 point compared with the spot at 14,471.30.

SYLHET, December 21, 2020 (BSS) – A mobile court today fined the owners of
four fuel oil filling stations TK 3.50 lakh on charges of tempering weight in fuel sale in the city .
A joint team of Directorate of National Consumers Rights Protection (DNCRP), Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-9) Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institute (BSTI) conducted the drive and fined the owners of the four filling stations.
“The court fined Bengal Gasoline Petrol Pump, Mojnu Filling Station, Surma Filling Station and North East Oil Company for manipulating the weight in selling fuel” , said Amirul Islam Masud, Assistant Director of Directorate of National Consumers Rights Protection (DNCRP).
