South Alabama has promoted offensive coordinator Major Applewhite to head coach. Athletic director Joel Erdmann announced the former Houston coach as Kane Wommack's replacement on Thursday, two days after Wommack left to become Kalen DeBoer's defensive coordinator at Alabama.
