Florida Atlantic standout Alijah Martin, who helped propel the Owls to the Final Four in 2023, is moving about 300 miles north to play at Florida. The 6-foot-2 guard formally signed with the Gators on Monday and is expected to become an immediate starter for coach Todd Golden in Gainesville. Martin, a graduate transfer, has one year of eligibility remaining.

Coming off back-to-back losing seasons, Florida coach Billy Napier needed to make changes. Napier hired a “head coach of the defense,” an “expert in the special teams space” and a new strength and conditioning coordinator during the past two months. Napier and the Gators are counting on all the new faces making a huge difference this fall.

Kentucky, missing two of its regular starters Wednesday, dropped a back-and-forth matchup with Florida for its second loss in three games.

John Calipari stuck with the same lineup for the final 10:25 of the second half, and then the game went to overtime. Florida finished off the “exhausted” Cats there.
