BIFA welcomes new apprentice incentive The British International Freight Association (BIFA), the trade association that represents UK freight forwarding and logistics companies, says that it welcomes the news that the government is increasing incentive payments to companies that hire a new apprentice. Employers will now receive £3,000 for new apprentices of any age who join their organisation from 1 April 2021 to 30 September 2021. Carl Hobbis, BIFA’s Executive Director, who has management responsibility for BIFA’s training and development services, says: “The latest increase in funding support is a further reason for our members to consider the apprenticeship pathway as a means of adding fresh talent to the industry.”

Moller - Maersk’s block train left the Chinese Xi´an station in Hefei on its way to the intermodal terminal in Małaszewicze, on the Polish-Bielarussian border, carrying production components for Amica, the largest Polish manufacturer of household appliances. “Attracted by faster transit, we reached out to Maersk with our project, knowing they understand our needs and would have ways to assist us timely and efficiently”, said Dawid Kujaczyński, Purchasing & Operations Manager at Amica. “With the block train, we get a solution that is fast, efficient, with a fixed timetable, transparent and with a (comparatively) lower impact on the environment,” added Kujaczyński.

Emirates operates milestone LCK flight Emirates SkyCargo has operated the 500th passenger freighter flight serviced by Rickenbacker Airport (LCK), Columbus, Ohio, on 1 April 2021. The 501st passenger flight to the airport was also operated by Emirates, EK 9909, arrived just two hours later at LCK airport. Both flights, operated by Emirates’ Boeing 777-300ER mini-freighters , were transporting PPE and other essential cargo. Emirates SkyCargo was the first air cargo carrier to operate a passenger freighter – a passenger aircraft operating a cargo only flight – on 28 May 2020, to Rickenbacker airport. Over the last 10 months, the carrier has operated more than 200 passenger freighter cargo flights to the airport.

Muscat honoured twice by IATA Muscat International Airport is honoured to have received both the ‘CEIV Pharma’ and ‘CEIV Fresh’ certification from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) for excellence in the handling of both pharmaceuticals and perishables through Oman airports. Alongside this Muscat International Airport is the first airport in the world to receive both awards simultaneously working as a broad cargo community including Oman Air, Transom SATS, Transom Handling and Swissport, alongside the Airport team. The cargo community at Muscat International Airport, have worked alongside representatives from IATA over the past eighteen months, to ensure compliance with all requirements. The successful completion of the accreditation program is only possible with a strong partnership approach across the Airport community and is testament to the hard work put in by all cargo partners.
