back against the backlash of the tough new immigration law. the police will be allowed to ask a perch about their immigration status if they are suspected of committing or being involved with a crime. the law doesn t go into effect until august and all points, governor jan brewer say, a lot of people have missed. 73% of the people in the united states agree with what arizona has enacted here. the bottom line is, there is a lot of mistruth about the bill. so it is going to be incumbent upon us in regards to that bill to tell them the truth. there has been so much bad information out there, flash cards, if you will that people have wanted to grab on to that its ridiculous. it s false and it is wrong. it is false that there is racial profiling. racial profiles is illegal. you are not going to be asked for identification unless you are committing a crime. for those people that are flying in, they already have that identification, most of them when they get off the plane.

or two, is the equivalent of or an arizona driver s license. 40 states don t have the picture i.d. or the verification on it. how worried are you, mayor, and i think you re deeply worried, that conventions are going to stop coming to arizona, to phoenix. you and i met at the nba all-star game not last year, the year before. and phoenix did an excellent job, welcomiing in thousands of folks. but i suspect there are some conventions who will have second thoughts about coming to arizona right now. conventions, tourists, business groups, i ve already gotten dozens of calls pleading not to boycott the state because of the actions of this. the law doesn t go into effect for at least 90 days. there will be court challenges. i m confident that the federal courts will enjoin it, at least until it s determined unconstitutional, and how to enforce it so officers don t get sued by civil rights individuals
