joining me now are cnn political commentator errol louis, and civil rights attorney and advocate nancy erica smith. errol, can you speak to the significance of cuomo s disgraceful end? after decades of dominating here and nationally, now he s out. the state s first female governor, kathy hochul, is about to step in. this is a political dynasty. if you include mario cuomo and andrew cuomo taken together, one of them has been on statewide ballots since the mid 1970s. so this is very, very significant. andrew cuomo is the dean of governors. there s no governor serving anywhere in the country that s been there longer than he has, which is over a decade. for it to end so quickly when just last year he was riding high, regularly on national television, talked about a presidential candidate, much
will come forward and potentially file claims against him. and again, you know, i think that we ll be looking at both and i think it is possible that besides these civil claims you will see some type of criminal action going forward. all right. julia, thanks for getting up early with us this morning. in less than two weeks lieutenant governor kathy hochul will become the 57th governor of new york, the state s first female governor. her storied and political career suddenly being thrust in the spotlight. she won a special election in 2011 for a new york congressional seat that had not gone to a democrat in 40 years. she lost the seat though after districts were redrawn in 2012. cuomo asked hochul to join his gubernatorial ticket in 2014. european soccer star lionel messi is bringing his historic career with barcelona to an end as he officially joins paris
moments before he announced his exit in fact, cuomo and his lawyer blasted the allegations as politically motivated and unfair. still, cuomo said he will leave office in 14 days, and as a result, new york lieutenant governor kathy hochul will become, very soon, the state s first female governor. cuomo still faces criminal investigations, as well as potential civil lawsuits from his accusers. cuomo once drew praise as a defender of women s rights, having signed into law new protections against sexual harassment in 2019. but cuomo s alleged behavior and today s resignation in the minds of many overshadow his record over 10 years in office. cbs ed o keefe will look at the political fallout from all of this, including reaction from president biden, but we begin with cbs jericka duncan in new york city. jericka, good evening to you. reporter: good evening, major. the governor said the political environment right now is too hot and too reactionary. you know, he presented his side at that
