Compromised ultimately leading to withdrawal chaos. >> i think a lot of us were pissed off. one of the first things i started thinking about was how i saw so much self-preservation. that was one of the most frustrating circumstances for me. we knew what we needed to do. it was obvious. anybody on the ground, it was obvious. but we didnt do it. and nobody listened. >> the people making the decisions on the rules of engagement havent left the wire. they havent walked outside the wire and seen by t...

You will remember what people in companies do, basically asking them to break the requirements to comply with congress. his allies at fox news understand that threat clearly, this sounds some sort of crime show than serious governance. mccarthy is maybe trying his best impression of omar from the wire where the threats are scary but vague because the gangsters holding real power or a gun does not need to spell out the exact threat. he just says something like well, dont make me tell marlow, we u...

Effective resolving problems on the ground in challenging environments. in limited cases, u.s. security forces went beyond the wire. sometimes by helicopter, to pick people up safely. we didnt not talk about them much at the time because they were dangerous missions. we didnt want to create the expectation to create a helicopter for everyone that wanted to leave afghanistan. i note those because its important to understand the steps and the roles that our u.s. military on the ground took far bey...

Cleared. lets face it, the extraction has been very, very difficult, very challenging, tragic loss of 13 service men but the real nightmare would have been a shootdown of one of those c-17s or a massive truck bomb inside the wire. i felt relief as i saw the c-17 lift, i bet the president did too when they handed him the note you mentioned a minute ago. operationally, willie, im worried about those american citizens, of course, but also the 100,000 to 200,000 afghans who stood with us through muc...

High school. they were ten marines, two army sergeants and one navy medic. your thoughts on who we lost last week. >> well, maria, i can tell you for a fact that so many congressional offices and private groups have had to step in to save americans and to save our at-risk allies. weve had to step into the void because the white house isnt leading. and we were in direct contact with some of those marines who were pulling grueling security during the day and then in their few off hours were in con...

The dart below razor wire, it would have been densely packed with individuals. but with individuals who by all accounts had a fairly slim chance of getting in. and there were still accounts people who went to that gate and tried and left later on in the day. it is unclear who the casualties are at this point. and one potentially saving grace for u.s. service men is that if that gate was not really functioning as much as i was led to believe it was, there may have been a minimal presence outside ...

0 casualties are unclear at this time. we will provide additional details when we can. we also learned moments ago that president biden has been briefed on that explosion outside of kabul airport. a white house official tells cnn. and we are waiting on a pentagon press briefing which will happen in about 30 minutes from now. the back ground on this, as you look at a live picture from the kabul airport, that in recent days and yesterday we reported the u.s. has been very concerned about a credibl...

You have got thousands of americans outside the wire. the clock is ticking. they are going to have to do commando raids to get these guys or just pay bribes. but you are going to have phoners from stranded women and children. people screaming, people crying. interest is no way the biden administration is going to be able to ignore that. and carter had a hostage crisis for, what, a year, maybe a little over? got three more years left in a biden term. this just isnt going to go away. so, if you ad...

Through the wire and will wake this nation up. its the american war fighter who is out there keeping our country safe and keeping america stupid. >> greg: thats a good point. the reason why so many of us were not thinking about afghanistan much is because i didnt have. to the work was done by brave fighters. to use an adage, we enjoy the sausage; we dont want to see how its made. this shows up the sausage in reverse and it sucks. i take some responsibility. i got distracted by the life of nonsto...

American citizens documented on the other side of it in afghans documented on the other side of it. that is a date that is coming. >> the general is suggesting there could be american strappe on the other side of the wire after august 31st in we all kno about the other story about people being held hostage by a hostile government, that story went on for 444 days. could we be in a similar situation if the taliban decide to say theres a lot of americans still left in afghanistan. lets gather them....
