Theo St. Francis, an MIT senior majoring in aeronautics and astronautics, discusses the importance of his studies of the Portuguese language in his undergraduate experience. Both his languages classes at MIT and his trip to Brazil, through MISTI’s Global Teaching Labs, had a major impact on his view of himself and his place in the world.
MIT Portuguese student presentations tackled themes of identity, nation-building, racism, multiculturalism, and more as reflected in the rich traditions of Brazilian music at “The Beat of Brazil” in the MIT Lewis Music Library.
