When Ithaca Organics owner Trever Sherman learned that this spring had been projected to be warmer than average, he laughed, considering last spring was hot and dry.
“We’re pretty much prepared for whatever happens,” the Freeville farm owner said.
Even as snow dusted parts of the county last week, farmers said they are fluid in adjusting to the weather, including a warmer-than-average spring.
Competing New York cities can pack it in. Binghamton appears on the way to winning the coveted Golden Snowball.
A brief snow shower added 0.2 inches to the city’s snowboard Tuesday, pushing Binghamton to 100.1 inches of the white stuff so far in the 2020-21 season, the National Weather Service tweeted.
Binghamton is positioned well ahead of its upstate rivals in the contest for the Golden Snowball, an award presented to the city that receives the most snowfall for the season. The cities that compete are Albany, Buffalo, Binghamton, Rochester and Syracuse.
Buffalo is currently in second place with 72.1 inches of snow, followed by Syracuse with 69 inches, Rochester with 65 inches and Albany with 54.
