Austin classical musicians quickly assemble a winter storm benefit

Austin 360 Perhaps because several of its leaders count as genuine visionaries, the Austin classical music community is unusually innovative, as well as collaborative. Consider just a few of the top-flight talents who quickly banded together to create the digital fundraiser, “The Power of Friendship: Winter Storm Benefit Concert.” The distinguished list includes Oliver Rajamani, Daniel Fears, Devin Gutiérrez, Thomas Burritt, Craig Hella Johnson and Conspirare, Matthew Hensley and Austin Classical Guitar, Michelle Schumann and Austin Chamber Music Center, as well as the Miró Quartet from the University of Texas. Saturday, January 30 at 3:00 p.m. | Festival Concert Hall Round Top Festival Institute presents Thomas Burritt performing works for solo marimba on the Festival Concert Hall stage on Saturday, January 30, 2021. He will be joined by pianist James Dick, the Institute s Founder and Artistic Director, for a select piece. The program will begin at 3:00 pm and end at 4:30 pm with no intermission. Dr. Burritt is Professor of Percussion and Director of Percussion Studies at the University of Texas at Austin. He has served as percussion faculty at Round Top Festival Institute each summer since 2004.

Join the virtual Conspirare crowd for the holidays in their community Big Sing event, belting out the classics from the safety of your own home. Usually held in person, this year s online (and free) singalong spectacular features the Conspirare Symphonic Choir, joined by guitarist Mitch Watkins and percussionist Thomas Burritt. The audience is the choir, and joining will be a few members from Conspirare s national roster, guitarist Mitch Watkins, and percussionist Thomas Burritt. Craig Hella Johnson leads the singing from the piano and with a mix of cherished holiday favorites, pop songs, and the Hallelujah Chorus. Lyrics will be on-screen and viewers can converse in real-time with the artists in the chat feature.
