A REVIEW is to be undertaken of potentially life-saving defibrillators in Redcar and Cleveland. Redcar and Cleveland Council wants to ensure that the devices, which deliver a high energy electric shock to the heart of someone suffering from cardiac arrest, are positioned correctly and available to the public. Across the borough there are 21 council-managed defibrillators, 50 licensed by the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS), and several that are owned privately, for instance on caravan parks, industrial estates and inside large supermarkets. The aim is to also identify areas that are lacking provision and increase the number of defibrillators available in these areas.
