Vijayawada: Even though all opposition parties are against the state government’s three-capital proposal and have extended support to farmers’ agitations, they are not willing to make capital an issue in the ensuing municipal polls.
While the ruling party has completely confined its campaign to its welfare driven agenda, opposition parties are focusing more on local issues.
Historically, the ruling party of the state has an edge in the local body elections. This has already been reflected in the recent panchayat elections.
“If the election is fought with the capital issue on forefront, a negative result will put us on the backfoot in future as the ruling party will bring in a narrative that people in Vijayawada and Guntur voted in favour of three capitals,” said a TDP contestant who did not wish to be named.
