The beach at Lake of Three Fires in Taylor County, Iowa will be closed temporarily for swimming effective immediately due to the "brain-eating amoeba."

A Missouri resident has been infected by a microscopic organism that causes a rare, life-threatening brain infection after swimming at Lake of Three Fires State Park in southwest Iowa.

The Center for Disease Control and Iowa Department of Public Health are testing to confirm the presence of Naegleria fowleri, according to a press release.
