Three Northeast Iowa residents have been injured in a 2 vehicle accident in Floyd County.
It happened at about 2:30pm Monday (May 10) on 165th Street, north of Floyd. A Westbound SUV driven by 19 year old Elizabeth Schmidt of Charles City, attempted to pass a road grader, also westbound. According to the Iowa State Patrol, the grader created a cloud of dust, obscuring drivers vision.
An Eastbound car, driven by Brandon Hummel of Riceville, collided with the SUV, head-on. The SUV driver, 19 year old Elizabeth Schmidt of Charles City, was air-cared to Mayo Hospital in Rochester.
Her passenger, 20 year old Joseph Holzer of Charles City, along with the other driver, 35 year old Brandon Hummel of Riceville, were taken by ambulance to a Mason City hospital for treatment. There was no condition report.
Three Area Men Charged With Illegally Harvesting Ginseng
Three Northeast Iowa men have pleaded guilty to illegally harvesting wild ginseng, in 2 separate cases.
58 year old Gregg Latham of Oelwein and 49 year old Dustin Millard of Strawberry Point, encountered a state conservation officer while out in the woods on September 11th of 2020.
Latham was in his vehicle, serving as the driver and lookout for Millard, who was in some nearby timber, illegally scratching and digging wild ginseng roots.
Ginseng harvesting is regulated by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and possession of any part of the plant on state owned land is against the law.
