Courtney “Eshay” Key, a 25-year-old Black transgender woman, was shot and killed Christmas Day in Chicago’s East Chatham neighborhood, on the city’s south side, local CBS affiliate WBBM reports. Friends and family members said they believe her death was an anti-trans hate crime.

Jaheim Pugh, a 19-year-old who used both male and female pronouns, was in attendance at the party when gunfire erupted. Pugh, who was wearing a rainbow-colored bodysuit, was hit. The video broadcast on social media showed Pugh lying on the floor as other partygoers declined to offer assistance. According to Pugh's mother Tiffany, a person on the video could be heard to say about the victim, "If he wasn't wearing that dress, he would still be alive."

Man out on bond in shooting charged with teen’s murder at Prichard Christmas party Updated Dec 17, 2020; An Alabama man charged with murder in a fatal shooting that occurred at a Christmas party was out on bond following another shooting earlier this year, according to authorities and court documents. James Lee James Jr., 33, was booked into the Mobile jail Wednesday night and charged in the killing of Jaheim Pugh, 19, who was shot to death at a Christmas gathering in Prichard over the weekend. Two other people were injured. James told reporters he is innocent and will be out of jail soon, but prosecutors are trying to keep him behind bars. Records show James was out on bail after being charged with assault and other offenses following shooting earlier this year, and authorities are asking a judge to revoke that bond.
