Twenty-three Washington High School seniors - 12 girls and 11 boys - sought the titles of Miss Massillonian and Outstanding Senior Boy.

The Independent Howard Johnson made a name for himself as a versatile musician from 13th Street in Massillon to "Sesame Street" to 30 Rock and beyond. The 1958 Washington High graduate was self-taught and performed alongside jazz greats. He wrote and arranged music for top acts such as John Lennon and led tuba ensembles that showcased the cumbersome instrument.
