SACKETS HARBOR â After realizing her husbandâs gun was missing and all but one room in the house was empty, Diana M. Meredith almost knew what she was about to walk into.
She sensed something may be wrong, even if her husband was called the soldier who never stopped smiling, the veteran who talked his battle buddies out of harming themselves, the kid who made teachers laugh when they shouldnât and the man who never gave up in being her once-in-a-lifetime love.
Even so, Diana M. Meredith worried what she was about to find in that last room.

Jacob “Jake” Lowell Fincher, who served with the Army National Guard’s Huntsville-based 128th Military Police unit, died on April 25 after a fight with colon cancer. He was 32.
Born in Decatur in 1988, Jacob was baptized at First Baptist Church in 1998. His favorite hymn was ‘Shout to the Lord.’
“We are confident that as he met the Lord, he was singing these words: “My comfort. My shelter. Tower of refuge and strength. Let every breath, all that I am. Never cease to worship You,’” his obituary states.
