This week we hear from Shawn Toovey, a Saskatoon nurse working at the forefront of the COVID-19 pandemic and creating artwork out of “upcycled” pieces of medical plastic, like syringe caps and pill bottle lids.

When ICU nurse Shawn Toovey isn t caring for some of Saskatchewan s sickest patients, he s collecting scrap medical plastics, including medicine bottles, syringe covers and vaccine-vial caps, to make artwork. The ICU nurse uses art to relieve work-related stress after experiencing burn out a few years ago.
