DeSales University baseball players are more to each other than driven student-athletes playing their hearts out on a field.
Off the field, students and alumni described the team as more like a brotherhood, connecting and banding together when someone is in need or lending support before even being asked. Familiar faces are at family get-togethers, milestones, weddings and other celebrations. Lifelong friendships are formed and extend well past graduation. It’s not uncommon to find past and current players hanging out at Lehigh Valley hot spots over the weekend.
A tragic crash in Upper Saucon claimed three young lives and critically injured another, all with ties to DeSales University. Sean Hanczaryk was a senior baseball player and gifted impersonator. Alum Nick White was settling down in the Lehigh Valley after meeting fellow 2019 graduate Emily Kattner, who made a lasting impression at Lehigh Valley Style magazine. Brandon DiChiacchio, also a baseball player, survived after being rescued from the car.
