Byrd Rareshide, a well-known name in Virginia’s equestrian world, stood accused of animal cruelty to 13 horses that were in her care at her farm in Goochland County.
Last February, owners evacuated nearly all of the animals in Byrd Rareshide s care after a local veterinarian raised the alarm about a number of emaciated horses.
The trial will occur more than a year after alarm about horses under her care set a firestorm across Facebook. Rareshide faces 13 charges of animal cruelty, charges which stem from allegedly underfeeding some of the horses under her care. One horse owner, Kimberly St. John, shared photos of her horse, Loki, in which he appears emaciated.
