VERONA School officials in Augusta County have been exploring what virtual learning might look like next school year.
The plan is for most students to return to in-person learning five days a week starting in August, but there may be some students who still want that virtual option that was used this year during the pandemic.
The school division sent out a survey to parents recently. It received 2,558 responses with 10.8% indicating they would prefer a virtual option if available.
Tina Kiracofe, the division s assistant superintendent of instruction, said the Virginia Department of Education did ask school divisions to make sure any student interested in virtual learning has demonstrated they can do so successfully and that they have Wi-Fi access and the ability to schedule live sessions with teachers.
VERONA Augusta County Public Schools is planning on a back-to-normal school year starting in August.
The School Board approved the 2021-22 calendar Thursday night at its monthly meeting. There are no virtual days at this point scheduled for next academic year and the plan is for students to attend five days a week.
That doesn t mean virtual learning won t be an option.
Tina Kiracofe, Augusta County s assistant superintendent of instruction, said the school division is awaiting further instruction from the Governor s office, which may provide a framework for virtual learning. We are currently looking at whether we want to provide some guidelines about who can participate in virtual learning, Kiracofe said.
