An exhibition centering on the Communist Party of China’s financial history in Shanghai was unveiled on June 28.
From the labor movement to financial battles, it showcases around 200 archive documents, photos and videos, recounting the majestic journey of the CPC leading the people in fighting for the independence of the Chinese nation, the people’s liberation and the country’s growth and development since the 1920s.

Stretching from the founding of the CPC to the takeover of old financial institutions and the establishment of the Renminbi’s status in the country’s financial market, the exhibition displays the main figures, activities and events in the CPC’s financial history in Shanghai, including the China Mutual Trading Company, the Chien Yeh Bank, the Tinkle Bank, and Da’an Insurance.

The Tinkle Bank at the intersection of Ninbo Road and Sichuan Road in Shanghai was the hub of a financial front of the Communist Party of China at the eve of the liberation. The owner of the bank, Xu Zhendong, was a patriotic democrat and a loyal friend of the party, although he didn t join it in his life.

Opened after the War of Resistance against Japanese aggression, the bank was one of the secret vaults of the party in Shanghai, undertaking important tasks of collecting money and goods and accommodating revolutionaries. It was also a witness to the friendship between Xu Zhendong and a group of notables from the party.
