Tipi Awa News Today

Native-led nonprofit Wakáŋ Tipi Awaŋyaŋkapi calls this year's Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt "disappointing" after participants followed clues leading to sacred land.

Wakaŋ Tipi is a sacred gathering place for the Dakota people, where ceremonies and storytelling traditions not shared outside the community have been taking place for centuries.

Showing their commitment to community, Minnesota United's supporter groups Dark Clouds, True North Elite, and Red Loons united to donate $8,000 to Dakota nonprofit.

Plus: Controversial nurse staffing levels removed from legislation; Target's return policy; Minneapolis Park Board announces movies in the park lineup; and more.

Lower Phalen Creek Project is now Wakaŋ Tipi Awaŋyaŋkapi. The new name means “those who care for Wakaŋ Tipi” in Dakota, referencing a cave currently known as Carver’s Cave but ancestrally called Wakan Tipi.
