Industries to remain shut for a week in Coimbatore Updated: Updated: Share Article AAA Almost all industries in Coimbatore and Tiruppur districts will remain shut for one week from Monday because of complete lockdown in the State to control the pandemic. Just about 10 % of MSMEs in Coimbatore are in essential and healthcare sectors and only these will operate, said M.V. Ramesh Babu, president of Coimbatore District Small Industries Association. While the foundries in the MSME sector will not operate, the larger foundries are expected to decide individually. Spinning mills will not function as the government had not given permission even to those units that house the workers on the premises. Garment exporting units will also remain closed.

Periasamy Micro and small-scale unit owners of nearly 19 industrial associations staged a protest here on Tuesday, demanding steps by the Central and State governments to control prices of raw materials used by these industries. J. James, co-ordinator of Federation of Coimbatore Industrial Associations, said nearly 700 people from different associations took part in the protest. The main demand was control of raw material prices. The protesters also demanded steps by the governments to address the challenges faced by the micro and small-scale units. They sought a separate loan policy by the banks for micro units.

Industry association heads plan to meet Union Minister Updated: Updated: Share Article AAA Representatives of industrial associations in Coimbatore plan to meet the Union Steel Minister shortly to explain the problems faced by Micro, Small, and Medium-scale Enterprises (MSMEs) because of the exponential rise in raw material prices in the recent weeks. Heads of the associations that are part of the Joint Council of Associations of Coimbatore told press persons here on Thursday that industries will not be able to continue operations if the price increase continues for a month more. According to them, prices of steel, copper, stainless steel rods, AMINE gas, PVC resin, aluminium have all increased multi fold.
