found her body near a window in the dining room. the decorated 11 year veteran of the force leaves behind a 16-year-old son and 16 month old daughter. her family who is already inside tells us off camera that while they are hurting, they do find peace in knowing that she died doing what she loved. you can see all the activity. it is not just firefighters, but a bunch of city leaders, the mayor, commissioner ramsey, firefighters from various divisions all here to pay their respects to joyce craig. there is another viewing here tomorrow before she is officially laid to rest. that is the latest from east oak lane tonight. philadelphia police have a man in custody for a series of attacks. >> and they happened on college campuses, all of them the last few days. deanna durante is live where the man is expected to be arraigned shortly. >> reporter: it's expected to happen within the hour. janl james barrett is being charged in connection with an assault that happened last night near the university of pennsylvania campus and the drexel university campus. and police are looking at him for a series of other cases, as well. >> we believe thousand there are possibly sexual assault and robbery at 47 and chestnut. videos around captured it. >> reporter: police are not publicly releasing the name of the man, but a public safety alert says james barrett is the man being held in connection with last night's assault on a university of pennsylvania student and a man responsiblesag of two drexel university students. >> we're awaiting arraignment at this point. >> reporter: barrett's mother told us that she has no idea her son was arrested until she saw it on the news. she says she has not seen her son in weeks and says he uses her home as his address. but doesn't live there. tonight there is relief on two college campuses after a week of terrifying attacks that police have a suspect in custody. >> glad he was caught. unfortunately, four people were harmed. >> reporter: police tell us surveillance video is just one of the key pieces of evidence that they have here that they say shows the suspect wearing very distinctive clothing while committing some of these acts. detectives expect him to go before a judge within the hour. deanna durante, nbc 10 news. first degree murder charges have been filed in connection with the death of susan johnson. she suffered blunt head trauma after being beaten inside her home. police say an argue over money motivated the deadly crime. miguel diaz is in custody. based on the staimts providprovid statements provided by the witness, we believe she was beaten with his fist and possibly another object that the witness was not able to identify that was actually inside of the residence, as well. >> tdiaz will be arraigned monday. johnson had worked with him in the past. she leaves behind two sons and several grandchildren. the son of philadelphiachak act as his own trial. fattah is trying to stop his case from going to trial. harry layer son hairston is loo the efforts. where does it stand? >> we have a difference of opinion involving strategy. >> reporter: he tells me one of his strategies is to get it indictment dismissed. he filed this 300 plus page motion asking the court to kick his case. >> this is thick and i guess his theory is that if it's thick, it might be true. >> reporter: he showed a former federal prosecutor the motion and he tells me the motion is based on whether the government lied to a grand jury. and that's not near good enough for a judge to dismiss the case. >> you have the government saying it's the truth. the defendant says it's not the truth. ask any first year law student that means you have a jury trial. remember the and he also says fattah's motion gives the government a look at his defense strategy. >> let's say the motion is correct. in other words, let's say there are all these contradictions that he's found. why would you highlight that to the government before trial? >> reporter: well, police gave me this sketch within the past hour. it's a sketch of a man who they say committed this crime. . the victim says she was forced into this alley and attacked by a man with a knife. atlantic city police say this just completed composite sketch resembles a man who forced a woman into an alley just blocks from the boardwalk and secondly sexually assaulted her. >> we'd love to get the individual off the street. >> reporter: we tracked down video that shows police responding to the scene. it was around 6:00 thursday more than. the man approached the victim as she was walking on the sidewalk and demanded money. she said she didn't have anything. police say he then pulled a knife on to the woman, threw her to the ground and forced her to perform a sexual act on him. this surveillance photo shows a man wearing a dark puffy jacket who police want to question. >> this is random. she had just gone to the convenience store. >> reporter: investigators say a loud noise in the area apparently scared the attacker and he ran off. the victim called police and was taken to the hospital for treatment. >> if you know the advice, please contact the police department. >> reporter: the victim believes that man was about 6-feet tall and between 30 and 40 years old. she said he appeared to be drunk, smelled of alcohol and was slurring his words. live tonight in atlantic city, ted greenberg, nbc 10 you news. an alleged drug raid may be tied to a mexican drug cartel. this is correspond to the county's prosecutor. yesterday the fbi, state and local law enforcement took part in pre-dawn raids arresting 16 people in atlantic city, hammil p ton township, pennsylvania and california. some of those people are accused of trafficking heroin, cocaine, and crack in atlantic city. >> information coached during the investigation, revealed that the heroin sold by this organization was being purchased directly from a mexican cartel and routed through california to new jersey. flori >> police seized more than $2 million worth of drugs. new information in the case of a boy accused of murdering his father. authorities told us today that shane ramsey use as cross bow to kill his dad. officers found todd ramsey's body inside the family's home. according to the affidavit, the teen skipped school and knew his dad would be mad, so he shot him. five people under arrest for running a meth lab in sussex county. police say the drug was being mafred inside a house in long neck. anthony and robert are two of the five people now behind bars. they were arrested inside the home. detectives also found equipment and key ingredients that go into making methamphetamine. do you recognize this man? expected this time of year. here's a live look outside as we mentioned, we are waking up to partly cloudy skies but we're dry. we're looking to have a dry weekend the entire way through. so temperatures there, cold this morning in the 20s in mount pocono. just 28 degrees. 28 in lancaster. 36 in philadelphia. just above freezing in dover at 33. at the freezing mark in atlantic city. that's at the airport, 32 degrees. feels like the teens in mount pocono. feels like just 27 in philadelphia. feels like 23 in dover. feels like 25 in atlantic city. so for today, partly cloudy skies. 34 by 8:00 a.m. by 10:00, 37. by noon, 39. the cold breeze, we'll talk more about that and look ahead towards your sunday forecast in just a bit. new from overnight, one person is dead after this car crashed into a tree, then caught on fire. this happened in the omni section of philadelphia. these are pictures from the scene of the accident at north fifth street and west roosevelt boulevard. police are still out there at the scene investigating. they're trying to determine what caused the single car crash. they tell us that the it offer bound lanes heading north on roosevelt boulevard will be closed until at least noon today. also new from overnight. a driver is in very critical condition after a police chase and a crash. nbc10 was on the scene at the boulevard in northeast philadelphia where it all ended up the police say they started chasing the driver of the suv involved in bensalem, bucks county, just before midnight. about an hour later the vehicle went out of control and flipped over several times. we're working to find out exactly why police were after that driver in the first place. we will keep you hosted. happening right now, it is one of the largest concrete pours in philadelphia history. this is a life look, the bird's-eye view from 18th and arch street where the foundation is being poured at the site of comcast new innovation and technology center. matt delucia is watching the action firsthand. matt, tell us what's happening right now and exactly what you're up to. >> reporter: rosemary, within the past 30 minute we got i side the construction site here at 19th and arch. we can show you what's going on. i have all the safety gear here, all the construction workers have all the hard hats and safety vests because they're considering safety a huge priority right now, especially when you're dealing with this much concrete. look behind me. you can see what is going on behind us right now. 4,000 yards of concrete are being poured into the foundation here. basically what they're doing is making this ten stories tall. right there this is the elevator core of the building so it's that central part of the structure. and right now i'm going to bring in mike, he's the project manager. you guys are managing the concrete operation here. tell us what is going on right now. how is that concrete getting into the ground? >> basically what you see is an operation that started around midnight. we've got 4,000 yards, 400 truckloads are going to be delivered in a continuous operation. take probably 10 to 11 hours to get it in. most of the trucks are coming up arch street. we also have trucks coming up 19th, feeding three concrete comps, comp placing into the foundation. that's ten feet thick. and it will probably, like i said, will be 10:00 or 1:001:00 before we get the concrete? >> how do you plan for an operation like this? >> well, a lot of oh preplanning between us, the construction manager, philadelphia streets department, also philadelphia police, and just a lot of -- like a month before, a lot of preplanning to do. the surrounding commercial owners are brought in. the residential property owners are brought in to let them know what we're doing. and so everybody is onboard for a night like this. >> we were talking about this weather. it's very chilly out this morning but you're saying this is perfect for pouring concrete. >> for this type of placement because the concrete is so thick. there's a lot of maternal heat that builds up. with the cooler temperature, it's a plus for us, for the curing process. >> reporter: mike, thank you very much. we know it's a busy day for you guys. they've got about 50 workers out here working nonstop, as you heard, since about midnight. they started the pouring operations about 1:00, 1:2030 this morning and they will be going throughout the morning hours. we will show you the progress. they still have a long ways to go. stories high when this is all done. ten stories thick, this concrete layer. we will show you this progress. just give you an idea of the traffic situation in this area, they are allowing some of the vehicles to go by in this general vicinity. but just as a point of reference here, we see all of these construction vehicles, all of these concrete trucks that are lined up here or arch and 18th and 19th street. may be a good idea to avoid this area in the later this morning. we'll keep an eye on this situation here live in center city, i'm matt delucia, nbc10 news. today will mark the final farewell for joyce craig. she is the first female firefighter in philadelphia to die in the line of duty. family, friends, and fellow firefighters gathered last night for the first of two scheduled viewings. nbc10 was at the bachelor brothers funeral home in west oak lane for the first viewing. craig died taus battiling a houe fire. she was trying to rescue an erlerly woman from the basement of this house. right now fire investigators are trying to determine exactly how this fire started and what prevented craig from getting out of the house. the second view for joyce craig is set for bachelor brothers as well. that's this morning at 8:00. the funeral will follow at 10:00. pennsylvania governor tom corbett has ordered that flags be flown at half-staff in craig's honor. this morning we have some new information about a man whom responsible for a series of students. a judge arraigned 55-year-old james barrett. that happened last night. five different assaults have occurred on or near the drexel and penn campuses just in the past few days. police say they caught barrett attacking a penn graduate student in university city thursday night. that's when they arrested him. authorities are now holding him on $150,000 bail. we also have new information in the case of the 17-year-old boy who is accused of murdering his father in kent county. authorities tell nbc10 that shane ramsey used a cross bow to kill his father. officers found todd ramsey's body inside the home on thursday. according to the affidavit skipped school and knew his father would be mad so police say he shot him. alleged drug ring may be tied to a mexican drug cartel according to the county's prosecutor. the fbi, state, and local law enforcement took part in predawn raids thursday morning. 16 people were arrested in atlantic city, hamilton towns p township, pennsylvania and california. some of the people are accuse of trafficking drugs into atlantic city. >> information developed during investigation, revealed that the heroin sold by this organization was being purchased directly from a mexican cartel and routed through california to new jersey. >> police also seized more than $2 million worth of drugs. a local university president is under fire this morning for joining protests in -- joining students in a die-in protest earlier this week. you're looking at picture of university of pennsylvania president amy gut it is man lying on the ground with student demonstrators on tuesday. they were all protesting the police shooting death of michael brown in ferguson, missouri. the head of penn's police union said that gutman's involvement angered many officers. university officials say she only wanted to show solidarity with the students. we are learning more about the cost of protests over those police killings in ferguson and in new york. philadelphia police tell nbc10 that over a two-week span their overtime costs for shutting down streets and ensuring public safety is nearly $700,000. some people morning let's look live at the concrete pouring that's happening in center city. this is on arch street between 1th a1 18th and 19th. this is the home of comcast. crews have been out there poushing concrete since midnight. they're pouring a ten-foot tick foundation. it's going to take them 10 to 12 hours so they expect to be out there through much of the morning. you can see they are busy at work. this building here, this innovation and technology center will be 59 stories tall. it will be topped by a luxury hotel. of course, it will be the new home of nbc10 and telemundo 62 as comcast is our parent company. the man accused of leading police on a chase through three states following a carjacking will be brought back to new jersey. this happened thursday. police say that trent tally went up to the driver of a medical transport vehicle here and asked, quote, do you want to die. police say tally forced the driver out of the vehicle, got in and then drove off. he headed to 295 and then the new jersey turnpike with officer hot on his trail. tally escaped into delaware and kept going into maryland. state police there used stop roadblock. they arrested him. his bail is set at $200,000. he will face charges in the other states and then be extradited to new jersey. from our south jersey bureau, there's a big stink in one camden county community. residents are taking their fight over a landfill odor coming from across the river to federal court. some people who live in florence township fouled a class action claut lauz of the stench. the group citizens against the smell say that waste management for the pennsylvania landfill are not doing enough to keep the air free of foul odors. some residents say the odor has forced them to stay inside. one local man says the air just smells fine to him. >> i've been coming down here for years. and i don't notice it. so whoever is complaining probably hasn't lived here that long. >> again, mixed reaction to what's happening at this landfill. tully town makes millions of dollars from waste management charging for the landfill. our calls to waste management about the matter were not returned. from our delaware bureau, a medical marijuana clinic intends to open in i'm withing on the next year. they will certify patients to use medical marijuana. the clinic will charge a $200 yearly fee giving patients access to a cannabis consultant, appointment with a doctor and six-month follow-up visit. it's set to open january 17th next to a medical marijuana dispensary that's due to open in april. next, two years after last night at the first viewing. the mother of two died tuesday battling a house fire in west oak lane. investigators say that craig was trying to rescue an elderly woman from the basement of thee house when somehow craig became trapped. as i mentioned, the final viewing is under way right now. the funeral follows at 10:00. pennsylvania governor tom corbett has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff in craig's honor. new from overnight, one person is dead after this car crashed into a tree then caught on fire in philadelphia. these are pictures of the scene of the accident on north fifth street and west roosevelt boulevard. we spoke with one witness who said he tried to rescue the driver. >> we tried to break the windows to get someone, anyone out. and within seemed like seconds it just erupted in flames, and there wasn't really anything else we could do. >> police have not released the victim's identity and are investigating the cause of the crash. also new from overnight. a driver is in very critical condition after a police chase and crash. nbc10 was on the scene where it all ended at boulevard in northeast philadelphia. they started chasing the suv in bensalem, bucks county, before midnight. about a hour later driver lost control and the suv flipped over several times. investigators have not said why they were chasing the driver in the fist place. crews are pouring millions of pounds of concrete at the site of comcast new innovation and technology center. this is a live pictureeá(yw oveh and arch streets in center city where philadelphia's tallest skyscraper will stand when all the construction is complete. nbc10's matt delucia is live in center city. matt, work has been going on there all morning long. and they are getting closer to finishing. tell us about it. >> reporter: rosemary, the hope is to get all the concrete poured in the next couple of hours. workers have been out here since midnight and they started pour that cop krencrete at 1:00. most of the work is happening 40 feet fwe low us. that is the foundation for the elevator core of this building. it's the first major step. and when this tower is done it will be 59-s&tx stories tall an tallest skyscraper in the city. that foundation@z will be ten ft thick. most of it is underneath all of that rebar that you see there. but we should have a three-inch layer of concrete there at the surface when it's all done. pl concrete does th take, you ask?w 4,000 cubic yards and 400 truckloads. one after@s(ñ? another, concret trucks are pulling up on arch street and unloading. when those. giant arms you see there are pumps that are push that concrete into the ground. with pietrini and sons. mike, tell me what'sshof going here. how important is this foundation for the structural integrity of the building. >> this is the crucial element for the underneath if pour structure. 4,000 yards of concrete coming in and being placed. after this the core structure is going to be built above5.b it a it it. that will rise above it and the structural steel will tie into it and it sustains the building. >> the big question is when can we start seeing this building rise from the ground here? >> we're5vx actually -- within week we're going to start on the elevator core structure itself. but it's going to be an overall -- about 16-month progress to build the structure floor. and then actually what i said is structural steel will follow behind it and basically from there you will see the output out building. >> a lot of work going on. thank you for your time. give you another look. we were down there not long ago but this is all together going to be the new comcast technology and innovation center. it's also the new home of nbc10 as comcast is our parent company. but for now though the only road that's being affected, as we talk about traffic, that would be arch street between 18th and 19th street. you see all that activity with all the concrete trucks. they're constantly moving into police. 18th and 19th streets are not affected. keep that in mind. if you're heading out this morning, i was just talking with mike, he tells me this they're hoping to get arch street you, matt. we'll check back with you soon. this morning new information about a man philadelphia police believe may will responsible for a series of attacks on college students in university city. last night a judge arraigned 1i'psqáh!art and set his bail. police say officers caught barrett in the act as he was attacking a 38-year-old penn graduate student in university city on thursday night. he is suspected in several other assaults on female students at penn and drexel over the past week. authorities are holding barrett on $150,000 bail. there's also new information in the shooting of rapper and philadelphia native beanie sigel. police have named two people of interest in the case as the rapper remains in critical condition following the shooting outside of his house in pleasantville last week. detectives want to talk to a man named ricky childress whom they already questioned but released. the other person of interest is sigel's sister-in-law, camilla. investigators are trying to contact her. from the nbc10 south jersey bureau, police arrested a man in the murder of a camden county grandmother. susan johnson was last seen leaving her house last week in glocester township.hçt police found her body early friday in evesham township. diaz beat 59-year-old johnson to death in her mobile home. johnson invited diaz and a woman to stay with her. they had all been living together for a couple of months. police believe a fight over money sparked the deadly beating. investigators say after the murder, diaz dumped johnson's body in the woods near willow ridge park. he will be arraigned on monday. do you recognize this man? police are hope that somebody does. they say he sexually assaulted and robbed a woman in atlantic city early thursday morning. the man approached the woman just off atlantic avenue. investigators say he forced her into an alley at knife point. police released this surveillance picture and want to talk to the man seen here in the dark puffy jacket. now to the atlantic city casino crisis. this morning we're looking at revenue numbers from the past year. the new jersey division of gaming enforcement released the figures yesterday. comparing this past november to november 2013 when there were 12 casinos and internet gambling was brand new, the casino market in atlantic city took in 10.3% less revenue. but when only the 8 can ssinos still operateing are considered, revenue increased year over year by 11 1/2%. four casinos have closed and the trump taj mahal could be the fifth. it's set to close one week from today unless a last-minute deal is reached. as for revel casino, a bankruptcy court judge voided2u its proposed sale to a canadian firm. revel wants the court to let the auction's runner-up buy the property. we'll learn more about that in january. california is coping with mudslides and flooding caused by heavy rain. still ahead, a look at the aftermath. that rain out west had threatened this roc+jo launch. foundation of what will be philadelphia's tallest skyscraper. this will be the site of comcast innovation and technology center. it will be the site, home to con cast software engineers, technology experts, all the innovators in comcast. also inside this 59-story skyscraper will be the four subpoenas hotel and nbc10 and telemundo 62. we are moving our operations downtown into the heart of philadelphia. as you can see the crews are busy at work. they've been out there since past midnight. we'll get another update on their progress from matt delucia at 9:30. new from overseas this morning. militants killed two u.s. troops in afghanistan during an insurgent attack on a convoy. authorities say it was part of a series of attacks that also saw taliban fighters gunned down at least a dozen/q bñ workers who clearing land mines. international official tells the associated press that the two americans were killed26 46áu nit near bagram air base just sought side the capital city of kabul. the attack also took the life of an afghan court official. new from overnight, at least eight people are dead. more than 100 are missing after a mudslide in indonesia. heavy rains set off the slide which buried some houses and swept away dozens of others. back here in the u.s., people in california are also dealing with the aftermath of a mudslide. flash floods and even a small tornado. it's the result of the pineapple express storm system. that's from hawaii and it's been pounding the west coast with heavy rains and high winds. the mudslide swallowed more than a dozen homes and in a rare occurrence in southern california a small tornado touched down in los angeles. the extreme weather conditions have certainly kept emergency crews very busy. firefighters rescued at least two people from the los angeles river this week. the storm system has killed two people in oregon and has left tens of thousands there without power. the rain california had delayed this launch on thursday, but it went off without a hitch last night at vandenberg air force base. this atlas 5 rocket lit up the skies as it climbed into space. the rocket is headed for orbit and is carrying a secret payload for the national reconnaissance office. now to news in washington. today the senate will meet for a rare saturday session scheduled to begin in just about three hours from now. lawmakers are debating a major spending bill that will keep the government running. the house passed the $1.1 trillion bill on thursday. senate democrats are split over some provisions in the bill but they're expected to pass it. a vote could happen as early as monday. president obama will not be in washington on monday. he will be in south jersey to visit joint base lake hurst to thank troops and families for their service. the military base is home to more than 38,000 active duty, reserve, and guard members as well as civilian workers and their family members. the time is 9:13. when we come today, yeah, pretty nice. looking at pretty nice weekend. as you mentioned, it is cold but it is december so feeling good for december. here's a live look outside. we are looking at partly cloudy skies across the area. some spots seeing more cloud cover to the west but we are more sunshine today which is good news. temperatures right now, 37 in allentown. 34 in lancaster. 38 in philadelphia. then we're looking at 33 in dover just above freezing there. factor in the winds. the winds will be a factor throughout the day. we'll have breezy conditions. it feels like the 20 nasdaq most spots. that coming up. >> thanks, michelle. happening right now, family, friends, and fellow firefighters are saying their fine theal good-byes to joyce craig. she is the first female firefighter to die while on a call in philadelphia. this is a live picture out side of the viewing in west oak lane. it's where loved ones and as you can see, many of her comrades, co-workers, firefighters are paying their respects. this is the last viewing for joyce craig. this was the scene last night outside of the first viewing for craig. the mother of two died tuesday battling a house fire in west oak lane. investigators say she was trying to rescue an elderly woman from the basement of the house when somehow craig got trapped. as we said, the final viewing for joyce craig is under way right now. it's happening in west oak lane. the funeral will follow in just about half an hour from now at 10:00. pennsylvania governor tom corbett has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff in craig's honor. it was a fiery crash overnight in philadelphia. one person is dead after this car crashed'ciá= aó;óv tree, caught on fire at north fifth street and west roosevelt boulevard. one witness tells nbc10 that he and others rushed to the scene but it was too late to pull the driver out. the car had burst into flames. the victim's identity has not been released yet. police are now investigating exactly what caused this crash. also new from overnight. a driver is in very critical condition after a police chase and a crash. nbc10 was on this scene at the boulevard in northeast philadelphia where it all ended. police say it started in bensalem, bucks county. they were chasing the driver of the suv just before midnight. about an hour later, the driver lost control of the suv and the car flipped over several times. right now we're working to find out exactly why police were chasing that driver. as soon as we get more information, we will pass it along. now to news in delaware county. crews were called out to battle here's a look at the scene at ninth and ridge avenue. everybody made it out safely but initial reports said that people were trapped inside the second floor. that's where fire officials say the blaze started. right now they are trying top2x determine exactly how it began. happening right now in center city, laying the foundation for what will be philadelphia's tallest skyscraper. for the past eight hours now crews have been pouring millions of pounds of concrete. this is the site of comcast new innovation and technology center. nbc10's matt delucia has a front row seat for all the action. he's been updating us all morning long. what's the progress at this point? >> reporter: rosemary, we've been out here all morning. the workers have been out here since midnight. they started pouring all of this concrete around 1:00 this morning. let me get out of the way and you can get a better look. you're looking down about 40 feet down at the foundation for the elevator core of this building. it's the first major step of this project here. that foundation will be ten feet thick. most of it is underneath all of that rebar. but we will have about a three-inch layer of concrete there at the surface. just within the past 10 to 15 concrete filling up toward the we're going to have one big concrete slab. it's a lot of concrete. we have 400 truckloads coming in here one after another. you see those trucks right up there on arch street betweenu[& 18th and 19th. they pull up and unload. you see those giant arms there. there are three arms. they are pumps that are taking the concrete from these trucks and pushing them down into the ground. and this will be the site of the new comcast technology and innovation center. z the new home of nbc10. comcast is our parent company. and for now, as we talk about traffic, you can see that the up there is arch between 18th and 19th streets. 18th and 19th are not effected but i've been talking to the project manager. he tells me they're hoping to get all the concrete into the ground here within the next couple of hours. hopefully by noon. and then get the road cleaned up by 5:00 this afternoon. live in center yeah, the folks out here are telling me that because the temperatures are chilly right now, it actually helps that concrete to cool. it's also good there's no rain or snow, but they were planning to be out here rain or shine. >> great, matt delucia live for news center city. thank you, matt. we have some new information this morning about a man whom police believe may be responsible for a series of attacks on local college students in university city. last night a judge arraigned 55-year-old james barrettnd set his bail. five different assaults have happened on or near the drexel and penn campuses over the past few days. they caught barrett in the act attacking a penn graduate student in university city thursday night. authorities are holding him on $150,000 bail. we also have new information in the case of the 17-year-old boy who is accused of murdering his father in kent county, delaware. authorities tell nbc10 that shane ramsey used a cross bow to kill his father. officers found todd ramsey's body inside the family home in harrington on thursday. according to an aft david, the teen skipped school and knew his dad would be upset so he shot him. now to the atlantic city casino crisis. we're looking at revenue numbers for the past year. new jersey division of gaming enforcement released the figures yesterday. comparing this past november, so november 2014 to november 2013, when there were 12 casinos and internet gambling was brand new, the casino market in atlantic city took in 10.3% less revenue. but, when only the eight casinos that are still operating are considered, revenue increased by 11 1/2% year over year. the deal is officially dead to sell the revel casino, that's the other news we're following out of atlantic city. bankruptcy court judge awarded the sale to brookfield asset management. the canadian firm won a court auction for the casino but could not resolve a fight over old debt. revel wants the court to let the kaukz's runner-up buy the property. a hearing on that request will be held on january, on the 5th. a south jersey college now owns the formern showboat hote and casino in atlantic city. stockton will turn the site into a branch campus to promote economic and community development. it will include hundreds of rooms for student housing. the college expects to have at least part of the atlantic city campus operating in spring of 2015. the showboat closed its doors in august. hey, if you're going to be heading down to the flyers game today they're hoping that you can help them spread a little bit of holiday cheer. of tuesday morning in ate fire. she leaves behind a 16-year-old son and 16-month-old daughter. craig began her career 11 years ago and worked her way up. her funeral is tomorrow. >> pottsgrove a fundraiser was held for detective ernie morris and his family. they were at disneyworld last week when a fire destroyed their home aix neighbor was captured on surveillance setting the fire. investigators say the woman believed morris was responsible for her son's incarceration. and a man who attacked a 38-year-old in university city last night now has been linked to multiple attacks and the woman was hit in the back of the head and dragged. a police officer saw it happening and arrested the man. investigators believe the same man broke two drexel students yesterday and sexually assaulted and robbed a student monday. new tonight 10:30 a fire broke out center city apartment building. this was the scene on the 400 block of south 9th street. around 7:15 a fire broke ut in the three story building. when firefighters arrived there was heavy smoke coming from the complex. 15 minutes after they arrived they got the fire under control. no one was injured. we're waiting to find the suspect said he needed $100 to get his belongings back and he called police and the two scuffled and the suspect fled once again. >> he got up to leave and that is when i pretended i had a gun and it was that wrench. i said stand where you are or i'll shoot you, he punched me and knocked me down twice. >> he says that his car keys were also in the pants and that the suspect went through the trunk of his car right there. now he believes that the suspect may be connected to a female friend of his, police are investigating and in the meantime therk are putting these bulletins on the university city, officers caught him going after a grad student and the 38-year-old woman was followed when she got off the bus and was struck in the head way metal bicycle lock and she fought back and was dragged 50 yards down the street and officers had increased patrols in the area because of recent crimes when they spotted the assault in progress, they believe the same man groped to students yesterday and sexually assaulted and robbed a student on monday. it shocked people that live nearby. >> live at 46th and walnut and i don't want to go out at night by myself. the suspect is connected to four or five attacks but they do not think he is responsible for the rape of a drexel student at his apartment. there are no suspects in that case and police are urging people in university city to stay alert. fellow firefighters and friends will say good-bye to a philadelphia hero, various people are invited to pay their respects to joyce craig at bachelor brothers funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. the veteran of the fire department will be laid to rest tomorrow morning, she was killed trying to rescue an elderly woman in a house fire. this marks the first time a female firefighter was killed in philadelphia. >> seth ramsey was arrested yesterday at his home in harrington, police were doing a wellness check after coworkers said they hadn't seen todd ramsey for days and that is when the 17-year-old told them he may have killed his father and the victim's father was found in the bedroom with a wound in his torso. ramsey is being held without bail. police have identified the man identified in a double shooting in port richmond. 24-year-old john marques jones was shot in the neck. and a 35-year-old remains in critical condition with a wound to the abdomen, police are searching for the gunman. new at 12:30, "action news" has learn that president obama will be making a trip to the region this coming monday. the president will travel to joint base mcguire, dix, lakehurst to visit troop there's, and will deliver remarks and thank the troops for their sacrifice and their service. another chilly forecast for the delaware and lehigh valley, it's clear out there as we take a >> the gentleman that was there if you want to call him that was not very nice person to her. showed her no respect and this was her home. >> reporter: mary sent this joking text to susan johnson on tuesday was wondering did you move. where have you been? by then police believe she had been dead for days. again, police are expected to update us within the next half hour. that's when we'll learn more about this murder and if champs are forthcoming. live in clementon, nora muchanic channel6 "action news." >> thank you nora. also breaking right now police have told us the name of the woman found dead outside a so much motel this week. santiago was found in the trunk of a car in maple shade on sunday night. she lived in philadelphia. 41-year-old jesus garcia was arraigned earlier this week on charges of disturbing human remains but he has not been charged with her murder. police have not said yet how santiago died. brand new at 4 o'clock, we have video of a brawl inside a delaware county school. students fought just as classes were about to start yesterday at can chichester high school. david henry is there now with more on what happened and how the school handled it. david. >> reporter: well, shirleen we don't know how the school is handling it because they're not responding to our calls for comment but in the meantime the police are investigating and they say criminal charges are likely against a number of students after yesterday's ugly melee here at chichester high school. >> (screaming). >> reporter: videos are poster on social media. the school public safety officer says it started as a fight between two boys over an earlier incident that occurred off school property. as the boys went at it other students jumped in. three teachers suffered minor injuries as they tried to break it up. police say one cut his hand, another had a blow to the head and the third was punched in the nose. the teachers drove themselves to the hospital where they were checked out and released. but police say all three were back on the job this morning. several students were taken care of by the school nurse for minor injuries. as students returned to class this morning, they were met with extra police patrols. there were no reported incidents today. despite rampant rumors the police say the fight did not involve young people from outside the school. the school released a statement last night informing parents of the incident. it said the students involved were meade immediately removed from the school. witnesses say it was frightening. >> one kid just swung at another kid and utter bedlam in the hallways i tell you. >> reporter: were you a little frightened of what was going on. >> of course. you have to be in a situation like that. >> reporter: and the police say as many as 10 of the kids involved will be facing criminal charges but none have been arrested yet. now we tried contacting the superintendent of schools and the principal of chichester high school here but neither has returned our calls for comment. live in boothwyn, david henry, channel6 "action news": rick. >> all right david thank you. in other news one man is dead after driving off the road and slaming into a building in southwest philadelphia. the action cam found the wreckage here on the 5100 block of gray avenue just after midnight. police say the 26-year-old was speeding down lindbergh boulevard when he lost control. his car flipped over and burst into flames. firefighters pulled him from the wreckage but he was already dead. investigators are not releasing his name at this time. >> prosecutors in atlantic city say they've caught a group of people funneling drugs directly from a mexican cartel onto the streets of new jersey. they announced the results of the investigation today. they say the group was shipping drugs through los angeles and right to south jersey. local police, the fbi, the dea and the atf all coordinated to arrest 16 people. they confiscated heroin, cocaine, marijuana and guns. they also seized properties cars and bank accounts. >> family and friends will gather tonight to say goodbye to philadelphia firefighter joyce craig. and they'll be joined by first responders from across america who are in town to honor her service. "action news" reporter annie mccormick is live in west oak lane where the first viewing will start in about two hours from now. annie. >> reporter: rick, that's right, and this will begin the first of two days of remembering firefighter joyce craig, the first woman to die in the line of duty with the philadelphia fire department. now, behind me you can see there firefighters are lined up and in both of those black limos are her family members. they are waiting to get out so that they can greet the firefighters before they head into bachelor brothers for a 6:00 p.m. viewing. they're expected to have some time alone inside before that viewing begin and as you can imagine there's going to be firefighters from across our area, police officers from across our area but also many first responders from across the can country. decorated firefighter joyce craig put in 11 years with the philadelphia fire department beginning her career with 178th cadet class first assigned to engine 9a platoon in northwest philadelphia. she worked her way up to her fourth and final station engine 64 northwest philadelphia. she began in 2012. colleagues say craig one of 150 women serving in the department always asked to be at the busiest fire station. she was working voluntary overtime at engine 73 when she was called to the fate tull fire in the 1600 block of middleton street in west oak lane. craig, one of the first on the scene, went into the thick smoke and became trapped. her crew realized she was missing. once found she was rushed to einstein hospital where she died. weren't person was saved from that blaze. craig leaves behind a 16-year-old and a 16 month old, a large family including her parents and siblings and her fire family who began their grieving process this week by putting up black bunting outside of their firehouse and memorializing her locker. craig's viewings are set for today from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at bachelor brothers funeral services and tomorrow from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. funeral services are saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. followed by intern. at ivy hill cemetery. and back out here live again you can see those two black limb mostly sunny waiting there in front of bachelor brothers funeral services with firefighters at the side waiting to greet family members. like we said they are expecting hundreds not own from our local area the s & p fell 33. chrysler is bowing to pressure from the u.s. government and recalling about 179,000 vehicles over a problem with air bags. those air bags can can explode with too much force and injure drivers. the recall covers ram pickups, dodge durangos, chrysler 300s and dodge magnums from different model years. this is just the latest in a series of recalls involving air bags made by the afternoon awe after all. a crash to avoid in pennsauken along 130 at westfield avenue and because of the viewing for firefighter joyce craig tonight, broad street is closed already until 11 o'clock between 69th street and cheltenham avenue. 309, 611 i think that's going to be congested. maybe use ogontz avenue or tookany creek parkway as alternates. you'll have septa bus detours because of the closure of broad street. further north don't use 611 in jenkintown. there's a crash at washington lane and meetinghouse road is closed this afternoon in abington because of another wreck between fox chase road and sunset avenue. forest avenue a possible alternate around that. in cherry hill we're watching a crash that brought down a pole and some wires closing split rock drive near marlton pike. stick with cropwell road to get around that and the slowing already start there had on 295 southbound. you see by route 73 just 18 miles per hour. we'll check it again, rick, coming up in the next danny garcia a professional boxer suddenly walked into this modell's store on cottman avenue. the current welder weight champion posed for pictures and signed a few autographs. the big surprise came when five needy families were selected to go on a shopping spree with danny. it was his way of giving back while also not forgetting the tough times of his own childhood during the holiday season. >> national hockey league battling the outbreak of an illness that usually affects children. monica malpass is in the news room with this story. monica. >> reporter: that's right the mumps virus has been spreading throughout the league this season and players in philadelphia are now taking some precautions to try to stay healthy t at least 11 players on different teams have been diagnosed. that revere and sam adams back in the 17 hundreds is now being unearthed in boston, massachusetts. historians believe what's insides will reveal a window into life in the colonial era so we'll tell you radar. you can see the center of that area of low pressure that has been lingering for days across much of the northeast is now starting to depart to our north and east and this is pulling away high pressure to our south and west will work its way eastward. we'll fly you to the western half of the united states and this is where we have been seeing heavy amounts of rainfall los angeles international over the past four days -- or two days i should say you've seen an inch and a half of rainfall. san francisco you've seen about 4-inches of rain your monthly average of rainfall is four an half so you picked up close to a month's worth of precipitation in just two days. we have another round on the way. this is the water vapor imagery and gives you an idea of how much moisture is in the atmosphere. so you have this moisture move in across areas in indiana tear eighty four sections of the west coast. another round moving in to the south and east as california deals with another round of precipitation early next week. the call from accuweather for the rest of tonight 31 in the city, 27 for the low in lancaster, 33 in cape may. partly cloudy bit of a seasonably cold december credit card. she reportedly used the card to buy more than 195 items on amazon, netflix and other sites. she pleaded guilty this week and will be sentenced in february. now on to actor mark wahlberg he's getting some support in his push for a pardon from an assault conviction and it's coming from his victim. wahlberg wants a pardon for attacking a vietnamese man in 1988 when the actor was just 16. that man says he for gives wahlberg and believes in seconds chances. he also says it's not true that he went blind in one eye from the attack. he says he lost his vision serving in vietnam and not because of what wahlberg did. wahlberg served 45 days of a two-year sentence for that crime. and finally we have new information about the new star wars movie thanks to an old school idea. director j.j. abrams released a series of trading cards with the names of the key characters in star wars the force awakens. tops is making the cards like they did for the original star wars movie in 77. somebody pass by and he walked right to where my trousers were, took the trousers and was walking out the door. i said who is it? and he mumbled something that i couldn't grasp. >> reporter: 87-year-old frank was sound asleep on his couch when the intruder kicked in his door. the suspect went right for his trousers that were sitting on a chair. his wallet was inside and $3,000. it took him four years to save the money. >> it took me forever to save it up. nickels, dimes, quarters and pennies, you know. i'm not a wealthy man. i may be handsome but i'm not -- watch your mouth,. [laughter] >> reporter: he still has his sense of humor but this is surveillance video of the suspect captured on a nearby business just after 4:30 a.m. it shows the suspect walking up to his home. he believes he was obviously targeted because the suspect went right for his pants. in an odd twist he says the intruder returned this morning around 8:30. >> he came back and he says, look, i'm from the neighborhood, he said, i feel bad for you. i heard what happened. he said but i happen to know who the guys. >> reporter: the suspect allegedly said he needed a hundred bucks to get his belongings back. that's when the 87-year-old called police. the two scuff if he would and the suspect fled once again. >> got up to leave and that's when i pretended i had a gun. it was that wrench. and i said just stand where you are or i'll shoot you. he knocked me down. he punched me and knocked me down twice. >> reporter: he tells me that the suspect also took his car keys and went through the trunk of his car. now, police are investigating. so far there have been no arrests. in south philadelphia, chad pradelli, channel6 "action news." >> police in delaware say a teenage are murdered his father with a cross bow because he was afraid of getting in trouble for skipping school. 17-year-old seth ramsey was arrested yesterday at his home in harrington. police were doing a wellness check after coworkers at dover air force base said they hadn't seen todd ramsey the father for days. that's when the 17-year-old told him he shot his father because he knew he would be mad if he caught him at home instead of at school on tuesday. 41-year-old todd was a civilian employee of the 436 is this civil engineers squadron. the teenager is being held without bail. police say 55-year-old man -- 55-year-old man will soon face charges for attacking at least one woman in university city recently. the suspect was arrested after officers caught him dragging a 38-year-old grad student down a street near 41st and pine last evening. they believe he is the same man who groped two drexel students earlier that day and sexually assaulted and robbed a different student on monday. however, investigators do not think he's responsible for the rape of another woman in her apartment near drexel on wednesday because charges are pending the suspect's name has not yet been released. >> local groups continue their efforts to remember the young victims in the shooting massacre in newtown, connecticut. it will be two years this sunday since two 20 children were shot and killed at sandy hook elementary school. ceasefire pennsylvania, mothers in charge and heeding god's call all gathered for a vigil today in center city. they displayed t-shirts with the names of the victims. the groups talked about gun violence and how to work together to solve what they call a public health crisis. >> well, macies and make a wish teamed up to make a local teen's fashion show dream come true. 14 year old ashley who has a life-threatening medical condition has been busy working on designing hooded sweatshirts. each one displays an inspirational quote that ashley came up with on her own. a designer for macy has been working with ashley every step of the way and today it all paid off. the sweatshirts were unveiled at a fashion show at the macy in center city. >> today you're going to see my sweatshirts i made for girls with insecurity problems to help them feel more confident, also girls who don't love themselves because of their appearances, i'm getting a little emotional that i came >> an 11-year-old arkansas girl is back home today after she decided to go on a cross can country journey in cab. family members say alexis waller swiped $10,000 in cash from her grandmother's sock drawer in the middle of the night and then snuck out. from there the child admits she walked to a gas station and hitched a ride from stranger to little rock. that's where she called the taxi that would drive her to georgia. >> he didn't really ask anything. he just asked where i needed to go and i said i needed to go to jacksonville florida. he said do you have money. i said yeah. >> she was trying to meet a boy she had met on vacation two years ago. fortunately police were able to track the call the girl made to the cab company and get in touch with the driver before she made it to florida. incredibly that driver is not facing any charges. it's not illegal apparently for taxis to transport minors across state lines. an alabama mother and grandmother reached a moment of desperation and found herself in trouble with the law but what happened is quite inspirational. helen johnson didn't have enough money to buy a dozen eggs to feed her five children and grandchildren, two of them are toddlers. she took just three eggs out of a carton and planned to buy them but a store worker thought she was stealing and called police. when she explained what happened to officer william stacy he felt she didn't need to be arrested, she needed real help. so he bought her the dozen eggs and sent her on her way. but someone as you can tell because filming it all and after several people saw the video well the food donations for helen started pouring in. >> she started crying. she said i just need help. i need help officer stacy. i need to put food in my baby's symptom max. that's what got to me. that's what hit me the hardest. >> oh, my god. thank you. you're so sweet. i just thank you sir. >> helen's family has been signed up for a holiday toy drive. >> such a touching story. at the big board big talkers and another touching story. if you could talk to yourself from 20 years ago, what would you say? what would your hopes and dreams and how are they held him for a full 10 minutes. the new mom added how nice it was to see someone slow down and truly share the magic of the holiday with others. kate says it's a moment she will treasure forever. >> great big lump of coal for you in center city rick. the vehicle fire in the eastbound lanes approaching eighth street. i know by now it's a little difficult to see because there's so much smoke in the air but i'm sure you can make out the flashing lights here along the vine eastbound as you head towards 95 and toward the ben franklin bridge, all of those eastbound lanes remain shut down. a different vantage point of the fire location, you can see it here eastbound lanes closed. so stick with the local vine up top instead. at this point it congested but at least traffic is moving along toward eighth street and toward 95. so, with the vine eastbound completely blocked off, shut down you're getting huge delays that spill back onto the schuylkill expressway. this is the scene eastbound approaching spring garden street. instead of this chunk you want to stick with the river drives like the mlk or the kelly. , see the traffic here on the west river mlk drive is moving at this point and to get over to 95 you could also keep going on the schuylkill in toward the walt whitman bridge. meanwhile we have the viewing tonight for firefighter joyce craig in west oak lane so broad street shut down. 611, old york road or ogontz avenue or tookany creek parkway. in jenkintown a crash along 611 at washington lane also in abington shutting down meetinghouse road. forest avenue gets you around that. watch out for a wreck in voorhees along 73 at signal hill drive. so lots of situations rick and shirleen. we'll check that vine situation in the 5 o'clock hour. >> meteorologist melissa machine. you can see it's dry across much of the delaware and lehigh valleys, no precipitation to track. it's dry, it's comfortable but it is on the cool side. 39 in the city right now, 27 in the poconos. reading 38. dover 40 degrees. sea isle city 39. beach haven 38. the winds right now are coming in out of the northwest direction so that brings down cooler air from the north and it drains it to the south and east so we have sustained winds anywhere from 9 miles an hour in reading to up to 14 to 16 miles per hour there in the poconos in millville. we'll show you satellite 6 along with action radar. there's that area of low pressure. this is the same one responsible that gave us the soaking rain earlier this week and even some snow showers north and west of town. it still lingers across coastal section of maine but this will push off to our north and east. high pressure will work its way eastward and things are starting to thin out across the ohio valley. this will continue to work its way into the midatlantic region just in time for our weekend. so here's the setup for us on our saturday the area of low pressure departs. sunshine and clouds tomorrow, northwest wind sustained anywhere from eight to 16 miles per hour and the high temperature in philadelphia 42. average for us for this time year is about frick. slightly below average. near normal zone partly sunny a light breeze up to 45 degrees with high pressure over the ohio valley getting closer and closer to our region which means if you're heading over to the linc on zinn it's a prime time matchup, it's an important game to watch as well as the eagles are taking on the cowboys. kickoff around 8:30 partly cloudy chilly and calm. can kickoff temperature 39 degrees. once you get into the fourth quarter we drop down to 37. here's your call from accuweather for the rest of tonight, partly cloudy. it's a december chill but seasonably cool overhead. we drop down to 31 in the city to 26 in the suburbs
