April 28 was the National Day of Mourning, honouring the lives of those lost or injured in the workplace. It is a solemn reminder not only of those who have lost their lives at work, but of the need for practicing safety in the workplace to prevent devastating accidents. Four flower wreaths were laid outside the main steps to Domtar Espanola, next to the memorial stone and placed by Unifor Locals 74 and 156, IBEW 956 and Domtar. The wreaths were produced locally by D’s Floral Expressions. Presidents Todd Tessier (IBEW 956), Joanne Lamothe (Unifor Local 74) and Dean Houle (Unifor Local 156) issued a joint statement, and Domtar issued a statement as well.
