When TEAM (Together Effectively Achieving Multiculturalism) Westport tasked Westport teenagers to write a 1,000 word paper on issues of hate speech, social media and first amendment rights in relation to Staples High School and Westport as a whole, the student writers had no trouble finding countless examples to pull from. Just this year, schools faced.
TEAM (Together Effectively Achieving Multiculturalism) Westport and their co-sponsor, the Westport Library, announced their essay contest for the 10th year in a row on Feb. 6. This year’s essay topic is “The Dialogue Challenge: Effective Engagement on Race, Ethnicity, Religion, and LGBTQIA+.” The prompt focuses on how interactions with people of different backgrounds and perspectives.

First Selectwoman Jen Tooker has created membership requirements for TEAM (Together Effectively Achieving Multiculturalism) Westport to have no more than 50% of one party and to constitute only Westport residents. Tooker affirmed the importance of TEAM Westport, emphasizing that she believes ensuring the minimum representation rule will guide the committee to continue its valuable work..
