The Week of April 30 to May 6 April 30 1879 - An actress, Lillie Ellis, at the Adelphi Theater is shot through the neck by a jealous husband at Hooper House hotel. He then shot and killed himself.
Feb. 19 1897 - Lakeshore grain elevator on the Maumee riverfront burns in a spectacular wind-swept inferno. 1923 -A doctor and nurse die when their car plunges through the lake ice near Put-in-Bay as they are on a medical run to another island.
June 5-11 June 5 1859 - A surprise drop in temperature to 24 degrees kills many crops in their fields in Northwest Ohio. 1917 - Thousands of young men from Toledo are signing up for the draft as U.S. involvement in the European war looms large.
