Tom Keathley and his fellow members of the Faith Equestrian Therapeutic Center Board of Directors have left me at a loss for words. How can they profess to be committed to the lives of veterans and children with disabilities when all but one of them voted to close out the 2019 audit without even studying evidence of problems that Chairman Karen Signal tried to present at a November meeting? They stated that they hadn’t seen the audit deficiencies prior to the meeting and still voted for it to be closed?

As a stakeholder (participant), the Faith Equestrian Therapeutic Center Board of Directors’ decision to remove Chairman Karen Signal and allow five staff members to resign due to the board mishandling of noted financial discrepancies is simply shameful. Further, I am beyond bewildered by comments made by board member Tom Keathley, speaking on behalf of the board and board member/founder and former CEO Bonnie Rachael’s late attendance to the board meeting where her actions were directly in question.

Given the one-sided nature of the article published in the Effingham Herald on Dec. 8 and the subsequent article on www.effinghamherald.net Dec. 10, the board members of Faith Equestrian Therapeutic Center (FETC) have an obligation to offer a response.
The board at FETC remains committed to improving the lives of veterans and children with disabilities. It is unfortunate that individuals professing this same commitment are now working to impugn the reputation of FETC and its board, most without the knowledge or details to assess whether the allegations made against the board are accurate.

GUYTON Karen Signal buckled emotionally even though she had braced herself for the expected blow. Tears filled her eyes as soon as the Faith Equestrian Therapeutic Center (FETC) Board of Directors ousted her as chairman Wednesday evening.
Signal and five of FETC’s staffers in recent days have voiced concerns about the findings of the charitable nonprofit organization’s 2019 audit that revealed $16,000 in disputed expenditures by FETC founder Bonnie Rachael. FETC offers equine-assisted therapeutic and education activities to help improve physical, behavioral, cognitive and emotional functioning in children and veterans with disabilities.
