More than 50 community leaders gathered Wednesday at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Westminster for its annual ecumenical Blues Christmas and Community Homeless Memorial Service.

The "Blue Mass" is traditionally held this time of the year to honor first responders — police, firefighters, EMS providers, emergency dispatchers, correctional officers, sheriff’s deputies, and military personnel. All the folks who selflessly serve and protect in the community and run towards danger while others run away.

As part of the inaugural festivities honoring McDaniel College President Dr. Julia Jasken, the college hosted a reception for representatives from the city of Westminster.
