Town's Reserves started the new season with a 2-1 home defeat to Crystal Palace. Pablo Couñago, Fabian Wilnis and Shefki Kuqi all started for the Blues' second string.
Two goals on three minutes from Jobi McAnuff and former Blue James Scowcroft saw Jim Magilton's first game in charge of Town end in defeat. The Palace pair struck on 58 and 61, Nicky Forster having put the Blues in front on the half hour.
Goals from Leon Cort and Paul Ifill condemned the Blues to a 2-0 defeat at Crystal Palace. Town had the better of the first half, but again conceded goals from corners and lost their way as the game progressed, despite Palace's Tom Soares seeing red for a violent challenge on Dan Harding.
Town's dismal season continued as Crystal Palace left Portman Road with a 2-0 victory. Jon Macken put the visitors ahead in the first half and Michael Hughes added the second from 35 yards after the break. Late on, Macken and Ben Watson both saw red but the Blues rarely looked like scoring at any stage.
On-loan Town striker Billy Clarke scored four times as his Darlington side thrashed Macclesfield 6-0 at Moss Rose. The Irishman netted in the 26th, 53rd, 64th and 67th minutes as the Quakers ran riot.
Town went joint top of the table with Coventry City after defeating Crystal Palace 1-0 at Portman Road. The Blues were the more dominant side throughout, but had to wait until the 70th minute for Jon Walters to open the scoring.
Striker Jon Walters is again a doubt due to his hamstring injury as the Blues look for their third win in succession when Southend visit Portman Road on Saturday. Gavin Williams and Richard Naylor are not quite ready for inclusion in the squad, but Fabian Wilnis returns.
