New association takes the lead on fresh produce and floral

Tomatoes picked by Mexican farmworkers who were allegedly abused were distributed by suppliers of major U.S. retailers, including Walmart and Albertsons, a Times investigation has found.

John McClung, who retired a decade ago as the president and CEO of the Texas Produce Association, spent a career in the produce industry with stops at the USDA and the United Fresh Produce Association. But he began his working life as a reporter, was an accomplished bird watcher, bed & breakfast hotelier and woodworker, and spent much of his career mentoring and helping others in his signature collaborative way.

PMA and United Fresh leaders provided a series of updates for the new association named International Fresh Produce Association.

New produce/floral industry organization set to launch next year

The announcement will include members of the new group’s Executive Committee and the media is welcome for a live press conference after.

Several leaders have been named of the future organization that will be a merger of the Produce Marketing Association (PMA) and United Fresh.

United Fresh will celebrate nine of the country's most innovative chefs and foodservice professionals representing an array of culinary styles and backgrounds this July during the PMA Foodservice Conference & Expo in Monterey, CA, as part of the United Fresh Produce Excellence in Foodservice Award Program, sponsored by FreshEdge.
