The Beef Shack drive-thru on Jefferson Street is well poised for success during the pandemic. (Image via John Ferak/Patch Editor )
JOLIET, IL During the last week of November 2018, I wrote about the grand opening of Joliet s first Beef Shack sandwich shop at 1606 West Jefferson St., and then like a ghost, I disappeared. Oh, I drove past the new Beef Shack literally hundreds of times these past two years, I just never stopped.
When Beef Shack opened as a new Joliet restaurant, I was not sure whether it would sink or swim. So many restaurants often fail for a myriad of reasons.
ORLAND PARK, Ill. An Orland Park official s request to look into instituting a mask-wearing mandate was met with some resistance Monday, Dec. 7, during the Committee of the Whole (COTW) meeting held prior to the regularly scheduled Village Board meeting.
Trustee Dan Calandriello said he asked that the item be placed on the COTW agenda because of the recent increase in the number of positive COVID-19 cases in Orland Park.
Subscribe I was just thinking of ways we can help our community be safer, he said. As we know, Orland Park has a lot of visitors during the day in and out, bringing possibly COVID and then taking home COVID, and then us giving it to our other surrounding communities, including Tinley Park. Just recently, New Lenox implemented mask ordinances. I guess the key thing is to increase the indoor mask wearing, which will [help] our businesses.

Mayor James Sexton returns to the village board in 2012 after being sidelined by West Nile Virus. (Patch File Photo)
EVERGREEN PARK, IL Wishing to derail social media rumors, James Sexton, the mayor of Evergreen Park for 20 years announced his retirement in a letter to constituents. Sexton also endorsed State Rep. Kelly Burke, also a village trustee, for mayor in the April 6, 2021 election.
Although rumors of his retirement had been swirling around for the past month, Sexton s announcement Thursday surprised some people. Forty years ago, I decided to get involved in Evergreen Park government and serve the people; here I am, forty years later, with an extremely heavy heart to let you know that I will be stepping down as Mayor in April.

Downtown Joliet s Catrinas Mex restaurant is donating all sales Saturday back to its employees. (File image via John Ferak/Patch Editor )
JOLIET, IL Some restaurants are geared for indoor dining, and
downtown Joliet s Catrinas Mex is one of them. After the first coronavirus pandemic shutdown for Illinois restaurants and bars from March through June, Catrinas Mex enjoyed a summer resurgence. Lots of people began dining here, and many enjoyed their margarita Yard Cups and the outdoor patio.
Fast forward to October. Will County s coronavirus statistics were skyrocketing, and Gov. JB Pritzker decided to halt all indoor dining and bar gatherings once again. The governor s mandate remains in effect heading into the middle of December.
