ASCO has strengthened its presence in Trinidad & Tobago with the award of an integrated logistics management contract from Total E&P Suriname BV (Total).
The contract, which came into effect on 31 December 2020, will be delivered from ASCO Trinidad’s Chaguaramas bases.
The work scope, which will support Total’s ongoing offshore exploration activity as operator of Block 58 offshore Suriname, sees ASCO Trinidad provide onshore logistics, pipe yard, plant and procurement services, as well as specialist lifting and training activity.
ASCO Trinidad’s Operations Manager, John Clouston commented: “Building on ASCO’s 20-year track record in the region, our reputation is built on ASCO s three obsessions, safety excellence, service excellence and sustainability. Total E&P Suriname (NYSE: TOT) has awarded Maersk Drilling (CPH: DRLCO) contracts securing the Maersk Valiant drillship and Maersk Developer semi-submersible rig for its exploration and appraisal project in Block 58 offshore Suriname, Maersk Drilling reported Monday.
As Rigzone reported on Nov. 24, 2020, Total had awarded Maersk Drilling a conditional letter of award for the drilling units subject to contract finalization and other conditions.
“We’re thrilled to firm up these contracts, adding further to our long-standing relationship with Total for whom we have a great track record from our collaboration on a number of deepwater exploration projects,” remarked Morten Kelstrup, Maersk Drilling chief operating officer, in a written statement emailed to Rigzone.

Total E&P Suriname for Total’s exploration and appraisal project in Suriname’s
Block 58. Mærsk Developer and Maersk Valiant will be employed for an estimated combined total duration of 500 days. Mærsk Developer is expected to commence operations in January 2021, while Maersk Valiant is expected to commence operations in March 2021. The total value of the firm contracts is approx. USD 100m, including rig modifications, integrated services provided, and a mobilisation fee for Maersk Valiant. The contracts include various extension options.
