There’s currently no shortage of controversies in medicine, with repeated strikes by doctors and proposals to shorten training times and introduce more non-doctors into the workforce. These matters have generated strong feelings. The result is an abundance of criticism on social media by doctors towards each other and other clinical colleagues, be they physician associates or nurse practitioners. What might once have appeared only in the pages of journals or only been uttered in medical meetings is now on social media for all to see. There may be benefits to such public venting, from “getting things off one’s chest” to promoting a cause to a wide audience, but the harms are considerable.
