Vietnam's tra fish exports are forecast to reach a new record high of US$ 2.4 billion in 2022, surging 70 per cent year on year, Vietnam News Agency has reported.

Tra fish exports have posted the strongest growth among fishery products so far this year while the biggest revenue was recorded in shrimp shipments, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

Vietnam’s tra fish (pangasius) export value is expected to hit a record high this year, reaching 2.4 billion USD, said Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien.

Tra fish exports recorded impressive growth in the first 10 months of 2022, with turnover eclipsing the 2.2 billion USD mark.

Vietnams aquatic product exports reached 900 million USD in October, lifting the country’s total export turnover in the first ten months of 2022 to 9.39 billion USD, a sharp increase of 32.7% compared to the same period of 2021.

The members of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) constitute a potential market for the export of tra fish, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

While Vietnam’s shrimp export was on downward trend in August, tra fish posted an impressive export growth, reported the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

Mexico has risen from the fourth in 2021 to become the 3rd largest tra fish export market of Vietnam, only after China and the US.

The exports of aquatic products are expected to fetch 2.8-3 billion USD in the second quarter, a year-on-year increase of 36-38 percent, thanks to the strong growth of key products, according to Le Hang, deputy director of the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP)’s Training and Trade Promotion Centre.

The average price of Vietnam’s tra fish (pangasius) exported to the US increased sharply in the first quarter of this year to the highest ever level of 4.5 USD per kilogramme, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).
