harder. the unemployed single mother of two says every day is a struggle. it s pretty difficult being a single parent, trying to get around with not much income, grocery shopping, picking up my kids, all on public transportation. reporter: a new report says the cost of living for bay area families has soared 18% since the recession started. oakland-based insight center for community economic development says a bay area family of four must earn nearly $74,000 a year just to get by. we re talking about really what does it take for people to make it? and these days we have many people in the middle class that are sort of falling, falling below, and we don t normally think of them as poor. reporter: the folks at the mal meada county food bank say more and more working families are coming to them for help. it s working families. it s people who have full-time jobs and just, unfortunately, due to the rising cost of living in the bay area, they can t cover everything. they
convicted of felonies in the u.s., serve their sentence and remain here illegally. agents made 118 arrests in the bay area. we had people that were, you know, child abuse, you know, rape. there was a guy with a manslaughter conviction. there s a guy with an involuntary manslaughter conviction. numerous guys that had drug convictions. reporter: in the bay area i.c.e. agents made the most arrests in santa clara county catching 35 undocumented immigrants with felony convictions. the field office director for i.c.e. operations in the bay area says the operation targeted those who posed the biggest threat to the public. it s just like any law enforcement agency. we have limited resources, so we have to focus our enforcement efforts on the people that we think are the worst and pose the greatest dangers to the communities, where we live and who we protect, so when we do these operations, we always focus on the criminal element and not the people outside of home depot. repor
