Railways focussing on international connectivity through N-E region: NFR GM

updated: Feb 06 2021, 21:39 ist Indian Railways is focussing on international connectivity through the North East, particularly with Bangladesh, Nepal and Myanmar, Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) general manager Anshul Gupta said here on Saturday. Train connectivity to Bangladesh is nearing completion, while survey work for linking Nepal with the region has also begun, Gupta told reporters at a press conference here. Work is yet to start in the Myanmar sector, he said. The NFR has been allocated Rs 8,060 crore in the Union budget this year, which is Rs 1,511 crore more than the budgetary allocation in the previous fiscal, he said. Adequate funds have been allotted for railway connectivity to the capital cities of all the eight northeastern states by March 2023, speed augmentation of trains in the region by doubling of High Density Network (HDN) sections along with electrification of the entire network, the NFR general manager said.

It is said to be capable of preventing train accidents caused due to ‘Signal Passed At Danger’, disobedience of train speed restrictions among others, by automatic application of brakes, should the train driver fail to do so. Shifting strategy, Indian Railways will now go in for indigenously developed accident prevention systems instead of costlier European technology to ensure passenger safety.
