to clarify, it was simply a clarification. i mean, we prohibit, we prohibit racial profiling in this bill. it mirrors federal law. we didn t change laws. we didn t add laws. we took federal law, put it into state law. it s always been the law. the problems like hurricane katrina, the failure has been at the federal, state, and local levels. we have a responsibility to our citizens. they have a constitutional right to have these laws enforced and it s malfeasance and violation of office for those who abdicate their responsibility. keeping the state and local, do these amendments at all reduce your concerns about racial profiling? no, it doesn t. the problem we have right now, there is not a training component to it so we need to train our officers. our officers are afraid because they re stuck in this triangle that was explained to you earlier. what we need to do is make sure that if the state is going to enforce federal law that we come in here, get training on it so

99 weeks expire soon if you were president today, would you extend unemployment benefits? if not, how do you justify that to the millions who are looking and whose families are depending on those checks? i said unemployment compensation should be tied directly to a training program. if you don t have a job and you need help, in order for us to give you the help, you should sign up for a business-led training program so that 99 weeks becomes an investment in human capital giving us the best trained workforce in the world so you can get a job. i believe it is fundamentally wrong to give people money for 99 weeks for doing fog. for doing nothing. that s why we had welfare reform. [ applause ] the easiest thing for congress to do if the president sends up a proposed extension to allow all 50 states to experiment at the state level with developing a mandatory training component
