A mission to bring samples from a distant asteroid back to Earth made history on Sunday with the success of NASA's OSIRIS-Rex.

A sample return capsule carrying specimens from the carbon-rich asteroid Bennu has landed on Earth. The capsule, released by the OSIRIS-REx spacecraft from space, was recovered at the Department of Defense-owned Utah Test and Training Range, seven years after it left the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.

On Sept. 24, 2023, OSIRIS-REx safely dropped off its collected pieces of the near-Earth asteroid Bennu. Soon, scientific study will begin.

The asteroid sample collected by NASAs OSIRIS-REx spacecraft landed in Houston today (Sept. 25), a day after arriving on Earth from very deep space.
