RI unemployment falls to 6.3% as job growth slows Journal Staff © Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training logo Rhode Island s unemployment rate fell to 6.3%  in April as job gains slowed, the Department of Labor and Training said Thursday. The state added just 400 jobs in April, compared to 2,600 in March and 1,100 in February.  The number of employed Rhode Island residents was 505,800, up from 2,400 in March, the DLT reported; the number of unemployed residents  those residents classified as available for and actively seeking employment was 33,900, down 4,300 from March. Popular Searches The state labor force shrunk by 1,900 in April to 539,600; it is down 6,100 (1.1%) from April 2020.

PROVIDENCE Rhode Island is preparing to bring back the requirement that you have to look for work and be available and able to do it while you’re collecting unemployment. Acting Department of Labor and Training Director Matt Weldon said in an interview Tuesday that those rules, suspended at the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic, would be back in place “in the coming weeks.”

In the phishing scam, potential targets receive an email that asks them whether they are receiving unemployment benefits in Canada, then directs them to a suspicious link, the DLT says. This email is not associated with DLT, and if you receive it, you are advised to report it as phishing and delete it immediately, the DLT says.
