good morning and welcome to the saturday edition of morning joe weekend. it was a really busy week. let s get to some of the conversations you may have missed. gag order in donald trump s hush money case is an effect, but his attorney said, they will keep fighting to get it thrown out. that comes after new york s top court declined to hear trump s appeal of the matter earlier this week. the state court appealed trump s thing, there was no constitutional grounds for the appeal. that leaves the gag order imposed by judge juan mershon in place meaning, he could still face penalties in place for violating it. the order bars trump from going after witnesses, jurors, and others who were involved in the case. following his felony conviction last month, the sentencing is scheduled for july 11th. so, i guess first of all, do you expect this gag order to be put back before the sentencing? i don t, but maybe there is reason for it. and then, what do you expect for the sentencing?
preparing for this bout like rocky balboa getting ready for clubber lang and trump is hard at work trying to go with the scented aquanet or unscented. biden is gathering with aides this week at camp david where his debate prep will likely be fueled by his favorite drink, orange gatorade which explains this new ad. is it in you? yes. good, good. i m glad. yeah. got to stay hydrated. got to stay hydrated. i like orange gatorade, too. lemon lime probably my favorite favor. oh, no. i m a blue one for me. every time. in wilmington, delaware there s a store near where his transition headquarters was so i spent a lot of time there in the fall and winter of 2020, and there was a store that sold souvenir scented candles, joe biden-themed scented candles. the scent, orange gatorade. his love for gatorade is well known and as you heard from the late-night comics, both campaigns are in debate prep mode with less than a week to go before their showdown in atlanta. we ll g
charges against special counsel robert mueller s investigators. they claim that his team improperly obtained a trove of e-mails from the transition headquarters before they got in to office. and some republicans are are speaking out harshly about this. mueller s team says, though, everything they did was proper, that they followed correct criminal procedures, and investigators did follow the law. all those guys need to be held accountable for what they did, but it needs to be exposed, because this goes to the heart of whether this whole investigation was legitimate from the start. we still don t know. the government won t admit whether they paid christopher steele for the dossier, how the russia thing started, whether they used it to surveil trump associates. eric: those are some of the questions to garrett tenney on the north lawn of the white house with the latest. reporter: at the center of this debate is who did these e-mails belong to, and we re talking about tens of thousands
trump s transition national security team that flynn didn t fully appreciate or fully understand the motivations of ambassador kislyak. that is why you had the head of trump s national security team, marshall billingsley, ask the obama white house to provide a classified cia report on the ambassador to provide to flynn to read ahead of his conversations with kislyak. one thing that isn t clear is whether flynn actually read the document. another tidbit we re learning, confirmed by my colleague, jeff zeleny, is that a former u.s. official said that the obama white house became troubled regarding the trump transition s handling of classified information. this official said that some highly sensitive documents were copied and removed from a secure room in the transition headquarters in washington. and so, as a result of that, some obama officials decided that some documents would only be allowed to be viewed at the white house.
billingsley is someone who is known to have had a more skeptical view of russia than flynn did. the key point is that while that was provided to michael flynn it s not clear whether or not he read it before having those conversations with kislyak that later led to his downfall because he discussed the issue of sanctions that had been imposed on russia. interesting details to emerge. one more point that i should make here, a former u.s. official told cnn that the obama white house was troubled regarding the handling, the trump team s handling of classified information. the official said that some highly sensitive documents were copied and removed from a secure room at the transition headquarters in washington d.c. and so some obama officials later decided that certain documents should only be viewed at the white house. so very interesting details emerging not just about flynn but about the trump transition team s handling of classified information. cnn has reached out to team
