November is National Runaway and Homeless Youth Prevention Month. Between 1.6 and 2.8 million youth run away annually, and approximately 4.2 million young adults experience some form of homelessness each year. If all of these young people lived in one city, it would be the fifth largest city in the United States.

Waypoints new Rochester Youth Resource Center will open Oct. 31. Its meant to be a drop-in center, not a shelter. There are no overnight facilities.

Over the last year, more and more youth in our area have become homeless. As of August, 452 youth were living homeless in El Paso County. That's up 21% from just the year before.

An open house on Tuesday August 30 was the culmination of hard work and dedication by community donors and volunteers who transformed a well-used house into a new and welcoming home for the residents of Shelter, Inc.s Transitional Living Program (TLP).
