the cdc now reporting more than 107 million people in this country have received at least one dose. and the average over the past week is about 2.3 million people getting vaccinated every day. let s begin with cnn national correspondent natasha chen for us in florida. visitors are there in huge numbers for spring break despite the pandemic. are people taking precautions? reporter: anna, most of the people we are seeing walking along ocean drive here are not wearing a mask. and you have mentioned there is not a lot of social distancing going on, especially with the evening crowds. here s video that someone took from friday night. this is an incident that happened a few blocks from where i am standing where there was a very large crowd. miami beach police tweeted about this saying two of their officers got injured in the situation as they tried to disperse the crowd with pepper balls. a couple of officers had to be sent to the hospital. that s just one example of the rowdines
policy that was so effective in the trump administration and as soon as you did that and other things, you just saw the surge of people coming over the border and our border patrols overwhelmed texas has had to step in and do this, they are having some success, but again it s a long border and they can only do so much even within texas. pete: texas doing with the federal government should be doing, but when the federal government is more or less not interested in maintaining the southern border what can you do? pete: by the way the white house said on friday they will suspend entry of immigrants who pose a risk of transmitting coronavirus in light of omicron. rachel: what does that mean? pete: i have no idea. i just read it off the teleprompter, but it apparently will: how do you identify which illegal immigrants pose a risk and which aren t? pete: they also said they are releasing people into the country and then a couple days later they admitted releasing people into the country so
how concerned should those who are vaccinated be about mingling with those who are not? yeah, so it really depends and i think we re in this in between phase of the pandemic where there aren t any clear-cut answers. the rate of breakthrough infections meaning infections if you re fully vaccinated is really low, but it s not zero. so somebody who has chronic medical issues or lives at home with somebody who is immunocompromised or young children who are not vaccinated, they might still wanti to be careful because they don t want to be asymptomatic but be transmitting coronavirus to people who live in their household. so i would say if everybody in your household is fully vaccinated, don t be very concerned. you can go about many aspects of prepandemic normal but if you are living with somebody who is at high risk, you might want to take caution. i ve got two little kids so my husband and i will socialize with others outdoors. we ll definitely be happy to see anyone who is also vacci
