Among many things, the pandemic has reminded society how indispensable professional drivers and their work are to our everyday lives. With businesses shut down and people sheltering in place, commercial drivers have gone beyond the call of duty to continue transport of essential goods from warehouses across the country to the shelves of our local stores, hospitals, clinics and front doors.
As the pandemic continues, even with the vaccine roll-out, the demand for the delivery of vital goods and services continues at an unprecedented scale. Our recent analysis found freight, tractor-trailer and long-haul fleets in and around Chicago consistently driving more miles each month than before the pandemic.

CORTLAND Christopher J. Ahladis, 53, fell asleep in the Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2020, at home surrounded by his wife and sister, after battling colon cancer.
He was born May 18, 1967, in Warren, the son of the late James and Elizabeth “Betty” Gates Ahladis and was a lifelong area resident.
Christopher graduated from Lakeview High School in Cortland in 1985. He served in the Navy from 1985 to 1989 as a hospital corpsman at Naval Hospital San Diego, Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, Calif. and aboard the USS Tuscaloosa-LST 1187.
After the Navy, he went to culinary school in San Diego, Calif. then went on to work at hotels and restaurants before becoming an over-the-road truck driver for 22 years. He was a driver instructor for TDDS Technical School and Schneider National. He drove for Transport America, Schneider, J.B. Hunt and FedEx Ground.
