Cat stuck in a tree finds rescue in MidAmerican crew

WATERLOO, Iowa (KWWL) – It may not have been an electric or gas emergency, but MidAmerican Energy crews rolled out their big bucket truck to help an unlikely customer: a gray cat.

According to Geoff Greenwood, a spokesman for MidAmerican, the cat had been stuck in a tree on Locust Street in Waterloo since Friday. People in the neighborhood, like Keondra Robinson and Travis McAtee, had been closely watching the cat and calling around to see who could help. Eventually that call landed at the MidAmerican facility nearby.

Just before Valentine’s Day, the staff and students at Eisenhower Elementary School finished the sentence “I love Eisenhower because .” and wrote their feelings on posters. Then they went on camera so the school could make a video slide show, set to music. It was posted on the Eisenhower Elementary Eagles Facebook page.

Back in 2019, a small student-run business known as the Paw Shop opened in a portion of a business classroom at Great Bend High School. Last week, GBHS business teacher Amber Lucchesi and a few of her students showed the USD 428 Board of Education how the project continues.
