Many questions about the future of refugee resettlement in the U.S. and just how agencies like World Relief will need to respond cannot be answered until Biden announces his plans, Soerens said. After the Trump administration made deep cuts to the federal program, World Relief closed offices and laid off staff. It is unclear if and where World Relief would need to expand, but the agency looks for places with a network of churches eager to support refugees and welcoming communities with job opportunities and affordable housing.  If there s a large segment of the population that is, I think, misinformed about who refugees are and is going to vocally make them feel unwelcome, that s not a situation we want to put someone in, Soerens said.
