This year’s longlist for the Booker Prize is out with Sri Lankan writer Shehan Karunatilaka securing a spot with his satirical novel The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida. The former Commonwealth Booker winner might just have a shot at winning if the Booker jury considers his past or the current crisis within his native country. 

Perhaps most fascinatingly, this years Booker Prize slate includes the youngest and oldest authors ever featured, including 20-year-old Leila Mottley and 87-year-old Alan Garner.

There are a couple of distinctive novels in terms of narration. Glory is narrated by a vivid chorus of animal voices, while Maps of Our Spectacular Bodies is partly told by the malevolent cancer travelling through the body of protagonist Lia.

The winner of the prestigious prize will be announced on October 17th at London’s Serpentine Pavilion.
