Tennessee Tree Day set for March 20 Special to The Oak Ridger Tennessee residents are invited to beautify their properties and their communities by planting trees on “Tennessee Tree Day” on March 20, 2021, and the Healthy Waters Program would like to help Oak Ridgers get involved. Tennessee Tree Day 2021 is facilitated through the Tennessee Environment Council with the help of numerous state organizations and agencies.  “It is a statewide tree planting event that engages thousands of Tennesseans of all ages and backgrounds to partake in the most powerful method of carrying out conservation solutions that will benefit communities for decades to come,” a city of Oak Ridge news release stated. Volunteers across the state will plant trees at their homes, farms, businesses, neighborhoods and other locations of their choosing. Avon Lake Plans Memorial For Beloved Tree Expert

(Shutterstock) AVON LAKE, OH Avon Lake officials are planning a tree-based memorial for former resident and member of the Citizens Tree Commission Russell Beck. Beck died last week in Oregon, surrounded by his daughter s family, the city confirmed. While living in Avon Lake, Beck served on the Citizens Tree Commission for 23 years. He was first appointed to his post by Mayor Vince Urbin in 1997. Beck s experience as a biology teacher at Lakewood High School made him the go-to guy for information about plants, trees and wildlife. Subscribe Russ was a kindhearted soul. He loved working with the city on its tree program. He fondly spoke about the farm and he always had a smile on his face. Such a good guy, said Joe Reitz, public works director, for Avon Lake.

Tennessee Tree Day gives volunteers a chance to plant thousands of native trees on March 20

ELIZABETHTON — Tennessee Tree Day 2021 will once again be offering state residents a chance to make their communities more beautiful by planting native species of trees on March 20. The effort is organized every year by the Tennessee Environmental Council, a non-profit organization based in Nashville. Thousands of volunteers across the state plant tens of thousands of trees at their homes, farms, businesses, neighborhoods and other locations on Tree Day. Trees may be reserved at TEC’s website, www.tectn.org/TennesseeTreeDay2021, now through March 7. Participants are asked to make a suggested donation of $1.99 for every tree they reserve for planting on March 20.
